1 year. ~7,000 km driven. 24 nights in hotel rooms. 125 hours of theory. 40 hours in the air. And yesterday, my competence evaluation.

Six years ago I was just a shy girl learning to fly, soaking up every bit the folks at the airfield would share. Somehow I turned into the old lady on the right hand seat — soon doing my small part to make the flight deck a little more colourful, passing on what was once passed on to me. Circle of life.

Unicornlines is a flight instructor now. Still surreal. 🥺

My season supporting the Gliding Club of Victoria at Benalla has officially come to a close. While the stats tell one story, the real highlights are the people behind them.

This experience pushed me far outside my comfort zone, but I was never alone in it. I’m leaving with a heart full of gratitude for the kind and wonderful people I’ve met here from all over the world—and a huge thank you to my support group back home. 🌍🩵

Had a day off from work yesterday, but I still spent it flying. I took my glider license out and took one of the club’s LS4s for a lap around the block. What was supposed to be a quick one-hour flight turned into nearly 3.5 hours of soaring. I completely lost track of time up there, just sharing thermals wingtip-to-wingtip with the birds. It was so lovely. 🩵🦅

Got up at 5:00 a.m. just to launch a glider into the dawn. Right as the sun crested the horizon, they released at 1,500m above the ground.

As the tug pilot, my job then is to descend as safely and efficiently as possible. And well, what can I say? I was fast enough to witness a second sunrise on the same day.

Sometimes flying is pure magic. 🌄🦄

Hier im Aero Park gibt es keinen Haartrockner. Musste mir also notgedrungen die Haare unter der Drohne trocknen.

Was soll ich sagen, so ein Hands-Free-Haartrockner ist eine feine Sache. Und die Leute hier haben nicht mal komisch geschaut.

It was great to see all the youngsters gathering in one place to enjoy the sport together. Had a lot of fun getting them into the air!
