@ben@werd.social the shells and supporting infrastructure will remain, but the computation equipment inside it (primarily GPUs) has a much much shorter lifespan than the telecoms infrastructure of the dot com bubble (particularly cabling). That might mean that a load of the datacenters do turn into empty husks when the bubble bursts.

New piece of Sci-fi artwork for May! The wedding has now happened (couldn't have asked for a better day), and so suddenly I had a bit of free time. Tried some slightly different post-work ideas on this set of mandelbulb3d renders and I didn't quite get everything right so it isn't my best work.. happy enough though and have a piece done in May. @mttaggart no not that (that was surprising and sad), I mean are we really surprised lots of people have conviently managed to forget about it when they launch a new product? I am disappointed in people (and still very disappointed in Framework for just ignoring the whole thing and mumbling about a big tent), but not that surprised that loads of people seem to have suffered from very specific amnesia.

@mttaggart I totally agree (I don't actually own one as I haven't needed a new laptop, but was incredibly excited by them and was always recommending them to others before). That said are we surprised? Tim Cook funding Trump's inauguration and whatever that prize for him got a massive collective shrug because M series chips go brrr and Apple make pretty products. People are probably thinking at least Framework are at pushing the hardware in a good direction (which imo makes it all the sadder).

Here is that finished piece, my delayed "March" piece. Titled "Iris" there wasn't much of a story to it, a bit of a "throw it at the wall and see what sticks". Some DoFresh and Alex Jay Brady influences in some elements though. Blender and Affinity Photo.

Failed at month 3 of my "let's make at least one art piece a month" aim I set myself for this year... that said I am more aiming at regular creation than anything else and I have managed to get 95% of the way there on a piece over the long weekend so I will count that as my piece for March and try to get another done this month. @mttaggart E.g. a) I think it is generally bad for their health (smoking literally, AI in terms of cognitive skills) in the long term, although some will get away with it. b) lots of people using them will be collectively bad for society as these costs compound. c) an individual using it doesn't make them a bad person (although I would encourage them not to). d) pushing (be that tobacco or AI) it on the other hand does demonstrate some sort of moral failing. 2/2

After a very busy start to the month I found a little bit of time in a couple of evenings over the last week and managed to throw something together. Not the most original piece but frankly the first aim art wise this year is to get making things again with some regularity and get the muscle memory back.
