I don’t know why “identify” was not good enough, but ok.

My father has an iPhone 14 but with a thick case on it that prevents him from easily using the Silent mode switch on the left side of the phone.

So I thought, there must be a software toggle in Control center … No.

The only way to toggle Silent mode in software is to turn on Assistive touch and have a floating button on the screen at all times.

What’s that? There is mute button in Control center? Yes, but only on newer iPhone models that don’t have the physical switch on the side. So dumb.

I never want to become a public figure because I don’t want thousands/millions of people to form opinions about me. Most of those opinions would be inaccurate. You can’t form a proper opinion about me without meeting me in person and interacting with me for at least a couple of hours. I don’t want to be misjudged by so many people. That sounds like hell.

I still have an Intel-based MacBook, which does not seem to support limiting battery percentage to something like 80% while plugged in (it always charges to 100%), so I finally looked into it, and apparently there are third-party tools for that. I tried AlDente, and it seems to get the job done:

The user experience of consumer technology is as bad as ever, and I have my doubts that AI tools will make things better.

2. you use it
3. you use it a lot
4. you use it in all kinds of scenarios
5. you just look at it for an hour and think about it
6. you let half-blind 70+ year olds use it
7. as a result of all that using and looking and thinking, you spot problems
8. you make improvements to make those problems go away

Can AI automate this?

WhatsApp’s backup systems are incompatible between Android and iPhone because they encrypt data using operating system-specific encryption keys and protocols. Well, that sucks. My father switched from Android to iPhone, and there seems to be no way to move the conversations over. It’s absurd that one of the most popular apps in the world has such a limitation.
