I don’t know if I know anyone on here who is in Ottawa area on May 14th. We’re putting on a concert with a variety of popular show tunes. Russell STA High School, 7-9pm.

I like the sound of idea: the tenor saxophone’s role in a classical orchestra is to add a layer of darkness to the lower brass section.

@jpmens@mastodon.social just imagine if we could mount a zip as a filesystem.

@andrew@ottawa.place @leigh@ottawa.place here's a video of someone involved in Canadian law/privacy with a bit about a website caught in a problematic legal situation. As a "website" owner (ie. mastodon server) you might find this case interesting in terms of data retention and handing things over to law enforcement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XETVLvkksj0
Lots to consider with all of this. Best of luck to you.

@andrew@ottawa.place @leigh@ottawa.place I would also make it clear that you can read DM's on this platform. Many from Twitter are unclear about that.
Also, it seems that Content Warnings are another area of contention. I would post something about your instance's policy on them, especially politics since this Ottawa after all.

@andrew@ottawa.place @leigh@ottawa.place There's another instance admin operating in Ontario. They're clearly overwhelmed atm. I think the key takeaway is to not to take on more users than can be handled by your team. Shut off new signups at first sign that things start to get out of hand.
Please don't forget about legal implications of running an instance. For example, there's a US website to sign up (+ a small fee) to get notified of DMCA takedown notices. There are likely certain Canadian laws about content distribution too that should be considered.

@andrew@ottawa.place @leigh@ottawa.place Best of luck with this project.
Would you like any bits of advice I've read from other instance admins on here?

@leigh@ottawa.place @andrew@ottawa.place Congratulations on setting up a local Ottawa instance. The about page looks good with the clear CoC and instance block lists.
Do you think that it might be good to boost the transparency a bit by providing details about how the instance is run?
For example, I'm curious about where the funding comes from, details about the admin team, plans for "bus factor."
