The beaches in S. America are exactly what you like, and it would get you out of the Boston winter at the right time. Anywhere from Rio to Punta del Este in Uruguay. The parts north of Punta del Este are that rough-style beach (no palm trees etc). I haven't been in years, but I don't think it changes.
