@atpfm@mastodon.social @siracusa@mastodon.social @caseyliss@mastodon.social just got to the end about the beaches. I know you don't travel much, but there is a marvelous hack available if you decide to spend the money. The beaches in S. America are exactly what you like, and it would get you out of the Boston winter at the right time. Anywhere from Rio to Punta del Este in Uruguay. The parts north of Punta del Este are that rough-style beach (no palm trees etc). I haven't been in years, but I don't think it changes. https://sayrer.com/blog/rio/

@atpfm@mastodon.social @marcoarment@mastodon.social Oh, last one, about the AI stuff creating shortages and finding bugs. The other thing they are incredibly good at is performance optimization. You feed them the profile, and they suggest fixes. I do it on my own work in Rust, but I won't self-promote that. Here's how it went on someone else's project: https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/2026/02/06/Q-Plus-C-Ch1

@atpfm@mastodon.social @siracusa@mastodon.social @marcoarment@mastodon.social the clothes do indeed appear on podcasts. I know it from Search Engine, but there is also a store of theirs not too far from my house. That stuff is expensive, but not like high-fashion expensive. The Nike shoes make sense, because Tim Cook is the lead independent director at Nike! He kinda has to wear them. https://investors.nike.com/investors/corporate-governance/?toggle=directors

As the show said, it's probably dealing with world leaders for a few years. It also makes sense because they have to do most things a year ahead at least, so it's still his decisions they're dealing with for a while yet.

@atpfm@mastodon.social haha, I get the audiophile thing. I'm always in favor of decent pro equipment, or maybe like a Rotel. But that stuff isn't crazy expensive. You can hear it on Apple Music. Everything is lossless now, use your fancy audio interfaces (Sound Devices?), you'll hear it. It also works with AirPods Max with USB-C wired. But I spend most of the programming day walking around with old AirPods Max wireless. I do notice when I switch to the audio interface. But that's a lot of listening to notice.

@dschaub@mstdn.social @atpfm@mastodon.social @siracusa@mastodon.social it is the design of the thing called "Fabric", which shares memory between the CPU and GPU, and also the "Neural Engine" matrix math/ML chips. It's fresh in my mind because I just wrote a bunch of code that uses Metal or Core ML where appropriate. This is much different from writing CUDA, where you have to worry about whether it's worth sending things to the GPU.

@bcantrill@mastodon.social @ahl@mastodon.social @oxidecomputer the other one is that people will say "oh, this is such a great architecture". I say, "Did they tell you to say that? It's ok to say so." So, this very free management style is interpreted as narcissistic, as if there is an arbitrary decider, but this is because they don't understand the business side. If the business side is any good, they know you are working on retention.
