@marcoarment@mastodon.social These student verification services are an insidious little middleman. They serve as a wedge to normalizing all sorts of ID verification online, and they have become massive data harvesters in their own right.
I really find the "RSS isn't dead" crowd to be the epitome of "missing the point". Yes, RSS the protocol is alive and usable. But there are fewer and fewer blogs publishing regular content via RSS. The problem isn't that there's no protocol, it's that everyone is still writing in a walled garden.

@caseyliss I'm currently running Plex and Jellyfin in parallel, mostly because I just don't understand what Plex is doing these days. They aren't really shipping new features but the app gets updated? They took out music and photos and now they're putting them back? Plex just has kind of a weird little smell right now that makes me think it's wise to be running an alternative in parallel.
