Dawkins' great achievement is to make evolutionary, biological and scientific concepts accessible. His books on such topics are amongst the best I've ever read.
I just wish he had chosen to stay in that lane. His rationale for rejecting "god" beliefs is no better than mine, but while I think I have excellent reasons to not believe I am painfully aware that I lack the skill to communicate them effectively. He appears to lack any such awareness.

When Donald J. Trump opens his mouth, at BEST he has no idea what he's talking about. But most of the time, what spews out are bare faced lies.
Not only that, but understand one thing. These lies don't even serve the USA. They don't serve the GOP. They don't serve MAGA. They don't serve his supporters. They don't serve his voters.
When Lord Dampnut knowingly lies, he lies to serve himself, and himself alone. He lies to enrich himself and he will throw anyone under the bus to achieve that.

@pojntfx It's a logical extension of phones running Apple or Google Operating Systems.
To remove that dependency we need to foster the development of an independent EU focused OS that can be installed on existing hardware or even subsidise EU based hardware. Not sure whether that could be, say, Nokia or a new player.

@MarvinTheMartian Zelensky and Ukraine have shown themselves to be extremely resilient. I would have expected nothing less than this adaptation to changing circumstances from them.
I'm sure Putin is going to try and come up with new ideas, too, but so far Zelensky has proven that surrounding yourself with people who REALLY understand the subject matter you're dealing with is a great strategy even in the face of overwhelmingly bad odds.
Am I surprised? Hell no.

@jupiter_rowland yeah that sounds like an interesting edge case alright. Perhaps a way around it might be to post a very rough description in a couple of lines and add that you're happy to describe it in more detail if anyone asks you to. I bet you wouldn't often get such requests and that will save you a lot of unnecessary time and effort, but you'd still be inclusive.

See, here's the problem: the U.S. electorate voted for Donald Trump in 2016. We, the rest of the world, were then subjected to his capricious insanity for four years. At the end of 2020 they voted him out.
At that point we were willing to consider that this may have been a temporary loss of perspective.
But then they voted for him again.
This proves we cannot trust the USA. And it will take a LOT more than one election for the USA to regain our trust.

I liked living in the UK in the early '90s. I enjoyed the stint in the USA even though it was the winter of 92/93. But those were more innocent times.

@cstross@wandering.shop @maya_b@hachyderm.io I never understood why some countries are so hung up on their "own currency". I've lived in places where they used guilders, dollars, pounds and punts. I went to the czech republic two years ago. What a royal pain in the hole. Lovely place but that goddamn money.
Now, though, I can fly from Ireland home to the Netherlands, drive into Germany and Belgium and even further afield, and never have to worry about cash or how much 150 Fukkis is in Real Money. Thank gawd.
