Is the intervention effective? I think yes. And the bag of tricks is deep. However, this may be fine for short-term only. imo Yen is poised to be weaker in long-term: Japan is going through 'balance sheet' shock. On the import side it's getting hit with high energy price, on the export side it's experiencing fierce competition from China on EV, semi, heavy machinery, etc. Feels the latter one is not being noticed enough.

this is also the case for other "successful" valley leaders (e.g. Zuckerberg and Musk). They just want to win and keep winning at all costs. There's a kind of ruthless, unhinged, and psychotic fervor driving these people. This possibly explains why things they say in public sound absurd and non-human (e.g. Zuck: most of your friends will be AI)

When viewed together with recent news headlines and business decisions taken, OpenAI and Anthropic racing to IPO this year could mean they are deep in operating loss, VC fund money is under strain, and they really need to tap the secondary market soon. Easier to raise debt for public companies as well.
