Dogs only exist in the moment. Any correction that isn’t delivered within 1-3 seconds is going to have greatly diminished effectiveness, and anything beyond 5-10 seconds (depending on breed) is going to not be connected with the behaviour that caused you to provide the correction. There are many breeds where, in general, the drive is so high that “force-free” training will be the fastest path to the euthanasia table. German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, and many other herding breeds in particular. Sure, you might get lucky and score a “low drive” dog, but that is relative to others in the same breed – by comparison it will still make any golden retriever look like a high-as-a-kite stoner slacker. But a high-drive dog can and will get itself into situations where treats, toys, and other positive incentives will be utterly ignored. Trust me when I say that under those conditions, there is nothing in the “force-free training” arsenal that can or will reach these dogs to break them out of their focus. And when that focus involves aggression against pets or people, balanced training is the only thing that will keep your dog from being euthanized by the authorities. Start training at an early age. Even as young as 8 weeks. Sit, heel, recall and others are vitally important in being able to control your dog without a leash, or if they slip the leash. Try to find a MSRP-priced version of Successful Together, as it will do wonders in laying down a good foundation of training. Look for the videographer MK9Plus (can’t tell if British or Australian), they have lots of excellent reels on how to understand your dog’s body language. Method k9 is another one. Manhandle your dog, especially when they are young and easy to handle. Don’t hurt them, but do get them used to being strangely handled, especially in cases like when they are at the vet. Do not take your dog out on extended runs for the first year of life, their joints will thank you for their entire life. Do not spay or neuter your dog, their lifespan and overall health will thank you for their life. Instead, consider vasectomies and hysterectomies instead, as these leave the hormone-producing gonads in place, leading to longer and much healthier lives. I hope this helps. no

While it takes about 8-16 hours of concerted effort, there are ways to castrate Windows into a mild approximation of what it was before. The big question mark is Windows 12… and whether AI and spyware/malware features such as Recall will be baked into core functionality such that it will be impossible to remove or reliably deactivate. I’m still with Windows for now, owing to requirements that have no non-Windows alternative (which include supporting and actually opening client data files for the desktop version of Quicken, for example), but I do foresee a time when I would reliably extract my last foot out of the Windows ecosystem. Thankfully, their server products still appear to be enshittification-free. For now.

Pretty sure it screams at us sometimes. If there was an atmosphere to carry the sound, the sun would be screaming at us at just over 100db. For reference, sounds at 85db can start causing hearing damage after only 8hrs of exposure.

It’s not that we’re not allowed to look at it, it’s that we have oodles of evidence on how severely damaged our vision becomes when we do look directly at it without sufficient protection, and anyone with two functional neurons to rub together isn’t going to be doing any looking unless they are wearing the appropriate vision protection.

PowerPC performed much better and made design changes that made much more sense long-term. There were also volume production issues and architecture advancement issues. Essentially, they couldn’t get volume guarantees and they were at the mercy of a much slower improvement cycle than they would have liked. PowerPC was absolutely an excellent top-tier processor, and the current Power11 line absolutely smokes anything else out there from either Intel or AMD, at the cost of being 100-200× more expensive. Like, think $30,000 USD for a single entry-level workstation, or $70,000 USD for the high-end one.

Windows 11 refusing to install on hardware it can absolutely run on. RUFUS is not only a great tool with which to build your USB installer (it has an option to download the correct and latest ISO directly from Microsoft), but in the subsequent steps it also asks if you want to modify the installer in some pretty useful ways. Such as bypassing a Microsoft account in favour of a local account, and neutering some of the more recent requirements. IIRC the TPM 2.0 requirement can still be nerfed.

This pokes fun at German rule-following, but as a Canadian of German descent (both parents), I can absolutely confirm that this “joke” is likely not a joke at all. Or, at least, it was lifted almost verbatim from observing another German parent.

And this is why I will never own a vehicle manufactured after 2006. I have just too little control with newer vehicles, be it having to auth with the mothership with every repair I do at home just to get it to start up, or even failing to start up in the first place when the mothership could not be contacted.

I start off with Win10Privacy (which also cleans 11) and then follow up with Win11Debloat. The two work pretty well.

And Microsoft is stuffing AI straight into Windows. Betchya dollars to fines that this will happen a lot more frequently as normal users begin to try to use Copilot.
