@zaire I wish my parents "abused" me in a way that would prevent me from accessing toxic wikis‚ troll imageboards and gory content when I was a kid so that it wouldn't affect my mental health. Unfortunately they weren't aware of the danger internet poses to vulnerable. But I now know‚ from my own experience. Parental controls is a way for parents to prevent kids to stumble across green site and manosphere scums. If you don't manage it for them‚ the algorithm will. And it's not in the best interest of algorithm to show what's best for who's using it. And even if there wasn't integrated parental controls feature‚ people would still be interested in it. They would just get them from paid proprietary apps‚ just like antiviruses in Windows. Which would be much much much worse.

If moving from proprietary software to Free Software is challenging to passionate enthusiast due to missing features and UX issues, they should list the exact features and UX improvements free equivalent lacks. Then, use marker to cross out these. I couldn't use GIMP without Non Destructive Editing(aka Layer Effects), and thankfully it's been implemented in 2.99, and I was finally able to switch by learning and using it for complex projects. It wasn't easy, and there are still things I miss. But when you list out the things you realise it's more manageable then you might initially think.

Did you know #GIMP has a Font Scaling feature? Question for users: do you use scaling values lower then the step size of 0.05? So, between 50%, 55%, 60%, 65% etc? E.g. 51, 67, 69 instead of 50, 65 and 70.

It's crazy how in 2026 TV remotes are still not universal. What do you mean Toshiba's Power button is different from LG Power button? Volume up/down? Aaaaa

@freezr @zemarmot @GIMP @CmykStudent they actually don't ignore GIMP existance ang are very well aware. They sometimes copy features and design decisions(Import/Export thing) from GIMP‚ and are open about it on their reddit. They also share(d?) a dedicated page just to compare GIMP and Photoshop for years now if not decades.

Most people don't know they're running GNOME. So what you will end up reading is selection bias stream of data from tinkerers and beardnerds.
