@Wolf480pl@niu.moe @cj@i.write.codethat.sucks @lain@pleroma.soykaf.com @howl@social.zxq.co Imagine how much nicer facebook would've been about tracking their users and/or how much smarter people would be to stay away from it if they got a huge list with icons telling them that "By signing up, Facebook will do everything from tracking your facial expressions to estimating your penis size whether you want us to or not" I don't think it should be illegal to track users. But it should be 110% clear to people exactly what they're getting themselves into.

I think they can store whatever they want if people are happy to agree and know what it's used for. I think you should see a screen similar to what android permissions looked like every time you sign up for anything. That's the easiest way to make sure users know how dumb they are without having to teach them how tech works every time.

While they use the member card to make sure you come back. It can also benefit you if you use it intelligently. But you lose that if you don't have a membership card. If they clearly stated that they tracked everything I bought and when I bought it in a nice human readable format that's easy to spot and parse. I'd have no real complaints.

Stuff like membership cards at your local grocery store also exist to track everything you buy and to shove coupons down your throat so overall turnover is higher. Which is another thing I like. I feel it's fine if you flat out give them some info they can calculate with it. But them taking information you didn't clearly give them permission to annoys me.

But I feel like if you willingly type in your address somewhere. Then it's cool. Someone tracking you everywhere based on your IP without really saying anything (at least not clearly) is what I hate
