I guess it was bound to happen. I have now moved through the various stages of being on Mastodon where I would set up my own instance.
Well, I now have my own instance up and running.

I got to see/meet Maeve (as well as Cristela Alonzo) for the first time when the Wait Wait Stand-Up Tour came to Portland, Oregon with Alonzo Bodden and Helen Hong (I met both of them at different tapings of Wait Wait before).

On the #WaitWait that aired 20 years ago today, panelist Paula Poundstone had answered zero questions correctly during the show's Lightning Fill-in-the-Blank round. It was the first occurrence since January 2000 (scoring data is not available for shows prior to January 2000).
Both Paula and Maeve Higgins would go on and have two shows each where they have answered zero Lightning round questions correct.

@rick@draco.deepskies.com @Anaxagoras@hachyderm.io @Alyzande@social.linux.pizza I don't recall that I had Pitfall in the stack of cartridges that I got, but I remember seeing the game at KB Toys or Toys R Us when the games were on the clearance pile. The only game that I got was Donkey Kong, because it was on sale and I didn't have any other console (I wouldn't get an NES until sometime between SMB2 and SMB3).

@Alyzande@social.linux.pizza I recently found the first two install floppies for OS/2 2.1 and the MS-DOS 5.x install disks for the Packard Bell Legend that I used to have in the 90s.
Other than the modem that came in that Packard Bell, my first modem was a Cardinal external modem; which, eventually got replaced by a Courier 56K modem.
@alex@mstdn.ca For some reason, I completely forgot that I had another machine that runs Plex as my DVR.
For that machine, I have Plex running directly (vs within a VM) and it has a 9th Gen Core processor with Intel QuickSync. I have it running Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS and I think the only thing that I needed to install to get offloading to be enabled was to install the following packages from apt:
intel-opencl-icd
mesa-opencl-icd
intel-gmmlib
intel-igc-opencl
@alex@mstdn.ca If you get an Intel NUC (or any other small form factor computer) with a processor that supports Intel QuickSync, you can use that to help with transcoding without the need of a dedicated GPU.
That said, if you do want something a bit more powerful, like a Phantom Canyon with a mobile RTX GPU, should be able to handle a couple of transcoding streams.
Don't worry about loading up with RAM, as CPU and disk space (to store metadata, preview images, etc) are more important.
