I need help from people using #Molly or #Signal on #GrapheneOS. I have no idea which part of my setup causes the issue.

I use

  • GrapheneOS on a Pixel 9a,
  • Molly,
  • MollySocket and Ntfy for Unified Push.

When I have Molly open, messages arrive immediately. But when my phone is off, they are delayed for multiple minutes. I've definitely checked a message and seen that it was delayed for more than 30 minutes. I have the feeling that it's been longer than that, but I only started checking the timestamps recently.

I have

  • checked that any battery optimizations are turned off. Molly and Ntfy are both allowed to run in the background as well.
  • turned off my VPN (WG Tunnel). It happens when I'm at home and the tunnel is off and it still happens when Molly and Ntfy are exempt from the VPN tunnel.
  • double checked that my WiFi and mobile data doesn't turn off when I put the phone to sleep. If there's any hidden option I'm unaware of, please let me know. It kinda feels like this might be it, but I couldn't find any options that sounded related.
  • looked for solutions online, the most promising of which just told me to clear the cache or reinstall the app. I did that yesterday and I could see it happen again within the hour.

I'm tagging Signal, even though I use Molly, because this is absolutely something I have seen with the default client as well.

Now to make things even weirder, I switched from Ntfy and Unified Push to the default Google Firebase mechanism and it is still there!!!

I'm going crazy, because Signal worked perfectly for years on my previous phone and ever since I started using GrapheneOS and this Pixel it's been causing trouble.

Any ideas? Please? Boost the hell out of it, if you can. Thank you. 🙏
