@drewmccormack@mastodon.social @gruber@mastodon.social Note, I don’t think SwiftUI’s declarative nature is what’s stopping it from being an alternative to AppKit/UIKit, I think it’s mostly Apple dropping the ball by providing toy APIs or no API at all. The issues I mentioned have simple solutions in the SwiftUI world.

@drewmccormack@mastodon.social @gruber@mastodon.social I’ve heard this argument before. I get the idea behind it, but I don’t back it entirely. I still want to reuse code on different platforms if possible. And I still want my code to be readable and maintainable by *me*. Even if it’s written originally by an LLM. SwiftUI seemed like a great cross platform framework. And I still hope it matures into something that can actually build great Mac apps.

@gruber@mastodon.social thank you ☺️. The undo manager stuff is also a great example. Honestly, I didn't even try to implement that in this app, but I can imagine a few more paper cuts along the way.

@johnbrayton@iosdev.space thanks! There is indeed a feed but I just noticed it isn't correctly referenced in the head. I'll fix that. The feed is here: https://pfandrade.me/index.xml

Just wrote about building a Mac-assed app in pure SwiftUI, based on my experience porting Shopie to macOS. The TL;DR: we’re not there yet. If you’re interested in why, I collected the issues I ran into with selection states, context menus, drag & drop, keyboard shortcuts, toolbars, and all the tiny details that make Mac apps feel Mac. https://pfandrade.me/blog/mac-assed-swiftui-app/

@dlx interesting. I don't get that when accessing that site. I know Apple will sometimes try to log you in with a "hidden" passkey for your Apple Account (on store.apple.com for example). This is different than the standard passkey prompt like on your screenshot. I wonder if the 1p extension is triggering that.

@dlx iOS/macOS does have an API for competing password managers that would cause you to see only one UI. It works, but it probably came a bit late, and the incumbent players never ditched their interfaces for this one.
