@stux@mstdn.social Very true when I had cats, especially if one escaped outside. My last cat got an AirPod so I could track him. Plus he blended in with the wood floor so he could be lying down right in front of me and I couldn't see him.

There was a race by museums to get the bodies of these last 2 birds. The idea of savings a species was unknown at the time. No one likes my ideas for dealing with deer overpopulation. They usually involve wolves. This results in a healthier deer population since they will kill the weakest. Hunters kill the healthiest.

@dabertime in the 1980s the US government tried to force Japan to change how they built houses as a way to force Japan to but more US lumber. The US method used more lumber to build a house and used imperial measurements. The Japanese made it hard for foreign companies to sell lumber in Japan but it was a joke to ask a foreign industry to change so we could sell more stuff. Plus the US lumber industry had a lot of slop in our measurements. But ask China about GB going to war to sell opium.

I wrote back to each email that I’m not Peter and to try writing to same name but use hotmail.com instead of gmail. I also have access to 2 bank accounts in Canada due to people not knowing their own email addresses. That banks have made it clear that they don’t care.

@Neblib @APBBlue you have to keep up with the grass and not let it get too high. Sharpening the blades is easier than I thought. I don’t find it hard but slower than gas or battery. And you want a good one, but less expensive than powered. Advantage for grass is that it does a scissor cut rather that ripping through grass which is why it is used for golf courses, see a tractor outlining 3 or 6 of them n

@Neblib @APBBlue I have a small lawn and have a push rotary mower. Previously I had a battery powered mower and after a few years I couldn’t mow my lawn on one charge. I am sure that battery mowers are much better now but look carefully at battery life and how long a charge lasts.

@futurebird@sauropods.win Flashbacks to a college course. Supposedly we were supposed to be learning critical thinking but the goal was to have students adopt political opinions. If was a film course and we were to write in a journal after seeing each movie. We would see only comments from the graders (grad students). We were graded but didn't get to see the grades, only comments. When we finally saw the grades they were much lower than most people expected. So the quality of comments weren't that good.

@AmandaMarcotte I was reading this week that men who are conservative often put themselves down as non-political because they don't want to date conservative women. Some want to break liberal women but many don't want a wife who doesn't have an outside job. They want a wife who will do the housework and also bring home money. It is even OK for a wife to make more money than the man as long as they don't tell others.

@scalzi I have an iPod 5G. I've replace the battery myself at the time. If I was really thinking about it I would have replaced the hard disk with a much larger SSD. But it is large enough. It sits in my wife's Logitech iPod boombox system now so it is charging all of the time. She has a purple iPod Nano which I keep as an emergency backup. I even have a 2nd Logitech iPod boombox in case her dies or she loses the remote. It was cheaper than buying a 2nd remote.

@drdrang WeHad one of those growing up but my parents would use it with a single lamp when we were on vacation. I finally moved from X10 light switches to Insteon. So no sending signals over the Internet just to turn on the light. I stick with it because the Indigo software allow me to make sunrise and sunset to determine lights going on and off plus adds randomness so the lights don’t turn off at 10:05 every night, which makes me feel better when traveling.

@flargh@mastodon.social My new Impreza has an 11.5” screen, great for CarPlay. Replacing it with an iPad that the user provides is a great idea. Until Apple changes the iPad size. I had to replace a microwave in a cabinet and the same version microwave was 1/8 inch wider. I didn’t think I would make it fit. It did but I was almost crying. Fuckers also moved the position of every mounting screw.

I'm glad that this case has been resolved but I am hoping to hear of policy changes at Apple and major improvements in customer support. I'm not holding my breath.

@leeloo @kottke @WarnerCrocker I think the wiki article did mention a 6502 but only as a disk controller. I had forgotten that the main CPU was an 8502 which I guess was just a faster 6502. I somewhat missed out on those specific days of computing. I was in Grad school in the early 80s so no money for a computer, and then bought a Mac in 1985 once I had a job. I had played with a Mac in 1984 and used and Apple /// for one course.

@kottke @WarnerCrocker I am wondering about the processor. My understanding is that the C128 bombed is that it could not run C64 games which depended on a bug in the C64’s 6592 processor. The C128 had a more advanced chip that did not have the bug and thus you had incompatibility. There was a C64 mode (did that use a 6502 chip?), and C128 mode, and a CPM mode. If they are not using emulation in this new model, what powers it and how does it run old software?
