@diemkay@hachyderm.io the abusers fled to Disroot, who will be putting out a similar policy as Codeberg: https://nixnet.social/notice/B8fg3jHRCCly1xeKvI This substantially strengthens the argument about community - the abusers being banned just want a free place to dump their code (80/20 rule, there are good ones out there I'm sure).

@tomgag@infosec.exchange I would perhaps frame this as "pro-human" more than anything; Codeberg has since day 1 been fighting people who see a free platform and abuse it. In the beginning, it was malware / rootkit type folks who descended and it gave them a bad rep. They had to fight to close major security holes in Gitea. The reality: Codeberg gets abused by people with ill intent. Running infrastructure to support that is costly in all manners, and has to be fought. LLMs are already scraping it to death.

@cR0w@infosec.exchange thanks, did not know this trick. One that I use to share - the comma. It can be used in a lot of places in a "from - to" mode. mv file.txt{,md} == rename mv file{.txt,} == strip mv file{,.txt} == unstrip ...etc. Not a secret, useful in all sorts of work.

@paulhulford@mastodon.world @leanderlindahl@social.folkdata.se @tekhne@mamot.fr A selling point for some contacts was how easy it is to use both mobile and desktop both united in content, but separated in operation (i.e. phone is off, desktop still works). Doesn't even require a mobile at all if you want. I find this extremely handy using the "Saved Messages" (notes to self) feature. Save something on desktop to myself, go on mobile and share it on SMS or Signal. (or vice-versa, send myself a link to look on the laptop)

@doctormo@floss.social a technique I use which is simple and effective, but not sure if scales to your size. Just fail2ban and a honeypot of 404s. Create an page somewhere only a scraper will find. Have that page link to a bunch of missing (404) local URLs. Don't make it obvious. Configure fail2ban to read the access log for excessive 404s within a short period of time and the AI bot will block itself. Ensure fail2ban has scaling block times configured (bantime.increment = true). Trap (404|444|403|400).
