@forteller @tanketom Den opprinnelige oversettelsen var fra 1853, så oversetteren tenkte kanskje bare han burde ordlegge seg så folk omtrentlig forsto. Substantivet «ski» var allerede brukt på engelsk (verbet fant de opp senere), men var neppe vanlig. Oppslagsordet «ski» mangler ennå en generasjon senere i Imperial Dictionary of the English Language (London 1883). Den kjenner begrepet ski, men kaller det «snow-skate».
