@vmp_ sadly this one is not fully working yet, but it is what motivated the current round in development :)

You don't need to know the size of your image or any partition in advance, embeddeb always chooses the smallest possible size. This does not sound like much, but I don't know of any other tool that can do this.

A build of the minimal example for a Raspberry Pi takes roughly 1.5 seconds on my machine and produces a ~80mb (uncompressed; ~45mb compressed) image.

Also it has quite a bit of cool code / features: * All the image creation (including writing ext4 filesystems) is written by hand without external dependencies. This means that the tool should also work fine on macOS / windows. * The parsing of debian packages is somewhat optimized, meaning it is fast * There is a lock file and image creation from this lock file should be reproducible.

I got frustrated by how hard (and slow) it is to build emdedded linux images last summer and started building a tool that you can use instead of buildroot or yocto linux. It uses binaries from debian/ubuntu and creates images from a simple specification of which files should go where.

It is my pet-project, and not intended for commercial use.

hey fedi, do you know of any good resources that summarise criticism about generative AI? Scientific, peer reviewed would be best, but everything, including blog-posts might be useful :)
