Seems like those RISC-V K3 machines with 32GB ram is sold out everywhere. Would love to have a couple of those for building Alpine Linux packages. Are there anyone who could help us with getting one or two of those? Preferable the pico-ITX. #AlpineLinux #RISCV

We still have 400+ packages to build for riscv64 before we can do first release candidate of Alpine Linux 3.24.

meh, apparently 2 parallel rust builds + erlang at the same time was too much for the milk-v pioneer riscv64 builder.

Anyone using NodeJS willing to help upstream support Alpine/musl so it can be promoted to a tier 2 platform?

Seems like it is increasingly difficult to ship stable kernels without breaking anything.

- 6.6.140 broke ppc64le build:
drivers/crypto/nx/nx-common-pseries.c:1023:35: error: initialization of 'void * (*)(struct crypto_scomp *)' from incompatible pointer type 'void * (*)(void)' [-Werror=incompatible-pointer-types]

- 6.6.141 broke s390x build:
drivers/s390/cio/css.c:1387:10: error: 'struct bus_type' has no member named 'driver_override'

I just pushed python 3.14 to alpine linux edge. It will keep the builders busy for a while to rebuild the 1900+ packages. There will probably be some inconsistency between main and community (we upload main before starting to build community). Hopefully it will not cause too much pain.

Thanks for your patience!

spent hours today trying to figure out why cmake removed the cflag for include directory to python 3.14 when building some packages.

Turns out it was thanks to ccache 🤦‍♂️

@ectaacte@mastodon.social I think rpi 2 zero has 64 bit support, so you could still use it.

@mjwin@mastodon.social yeah, I guess what I have been thinking so far is that if you still use RPi 1, which OS would make sense to run? Even if we'd drop armhf now, you could still continue to use alpine 3.23 for a while.

@fossdd@chaos.social @Nero@chaos.social yeah, reduce friction. More and more upstream drop support for it. It would also help a little bit in disk usage on mirrors which is becoming a problem, and CI resources. None of those would make big difference but it is a little here and there. One less thing to worry about.

I would like to drop armhf (armv6) support in #AlpineLinux. The only current hardware I am aware of that is armv6 is Raspberry Pi Zero series (EOL 2030). I don't think it is worth the extra effort to support both armhf (armv6) and armv7 at this point.

Do you think we should drop armhf to free up some resources?

I'd like to start upgrade python in alpine which currently is 3.12. Should we upgrade to 3.13 for next stable release or should skip 3.13 and go directly for 3.14?

apparently they got restored. https://github.com/urllib3/urllib3/pull/3732 But I am not sure in which version, if any? Maybe I'll just let someone else deal with it.

If you do security fix releases for your OSS software, please don't remove methods at the same time. And if you introduce anything that potentially could break things, please bump the major version number.

https://github.com/urllib3/urllib3/blob/8864ac407bba8607950025e0979c4c69bc7abc7b/CHANGES.rst#removals

Not there are critical security fixes that cannot be pushed to a linux distro without risking that stuff breaks.

We finally got Alpine Llinux 3.23 out the door. It comes with 6.18 (LTS) kernel and zfs-2.4.0-rc4 (just like FreeBSD 15...). You may want verify that you have backup before upgrade if you use ZFS.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed one way or the other.

Alpine Linux 3.23.0 RC2 is out. This comes with the 6.18 kernel and zfs-2.4.0-rc4. Please test and report back!

This is hopefully the last release candidate.
