Hi to all my new followers, I'm very sorry but I'm still having an existential crisis here about the supposed existence of "The Mastodon Way of Threading Posts" in which one is supposedly supposed to manually change the Privacy Status on every post (Listed, then Unlisted) to avoid "Spamming Timelines (tm)".

This might seem like a little thing.

But it's one in a number of weird UX hassles and/or weird street-level workaround protocols that, for me, just has finally hit my personal limit.

@qwazix@mastodon.social I think infinite scrolling is okay for stuff that is all of one type... like posts or comments... but it definitely should have URL selectors into it, and should update the URL bar each time you scroll to a new post. Otherwise ugh just no.

Dear whoever invented the 'scroll down from the bottom of a news story and suddenly you are reading a completely unrelated one' thing on websites:

Please invent a time machine so you can go back and tell your younger self that this was a terrible idea.

At the top of everyone's computer security threat models should be:

1. Silicon Valley is run by a clique of unaccountable billionaires at least some of whom are actual Nazis, or at least Nazi-curious and find Nazis sympathetic and interesting and worth hearing out because they have important and fun ideas

2. The United States Government, as of 2017, is run by people who are actual Nazis and also Russian Mafia

Yet very few Silicon Valley Best Practices seem to take #1 into account
