So far you've told me:

  • Something about "dash boards" and "graph anal", I have no idea what those are
  • Something about dynamic DnD maps. Sounds cool, but not sure if presenting a JPEG is better than puzzling Gloomhaven maps.
  • Art/vanity display, sounds good, but I'm not sure how to source that art and doing it by hand sounds painful
  • Cameras: Creepy

@Miaourt If you can manage putting it in a fs that supports compression, you can easily halve that. No idea why it compresses that well, but won't complain.

@hypha@cafe.mycelium.locahlo.st @domi@donotsta.re Many things indirectly are, I run homeassistant on kubernetes too. I don't have smart locks or doorbells, but the house heating is homeassistant so it technically runs on kubernetes :neocat_pleading: All the stuff has fallback physical switches tho, even simple lights. Heating has traditional thermostats wired in parallel too. So if my server rack catches fire, everything still works - just without fancy automations.

@domi@donotsta.re Like, obviously I don't run a kubernetes cluster for the printer alone. But since the cluster is there, putting the printer on it has quite a lot of benefits imo.

@domi@donotsta.re It's kubernetes stuff, container networking is complicated sometimes. There is software that manage kubernetes networks without ebpf and work perfectly fine using only kernel primitives, I just happen to use this one because random reasons.

Now, how on earth do I fix this... Maybe I can uuuh give a static core to klipper so it runs entirely undisturbed? Some renice sidecar hack to give it realtime priority? Limit cilium container to 1 core?

The latter is the easiest but also the most annoying for the rest of the nodes, who have more and more powerful cores and don't use wifi.

Granted, the node where I run klipper is a very shitty, dual-core machine. Easy to overwhelm. How band roaming ends up causing clang to peg the CPU is, in hindsight, somewhat easy to see, but still fun nonetheless.

Today's fun headline: Kubernetes keeps breaking my 3D prints.

I've been debugging weird, apparently random times where Klipper would shutdown due to "Timer too close". The helpful error message says this happens when the host (PC) cpu is overloaded.

So I started watching btop closely, and found out that the process smashing the cpu from time to time was... clang?

The only thing using clang on this machine is cilium, to compile bpf programs that make networking happens. Why is cilium recompiling bpf programs randomly?

Welp, it's not random. It correlates perfectly with wlan assoc/disassoc to/from the different wifi bands.

Welp, I didn't see this one coming.

I'm up for recommendations on fidget-style trinkets that are actually good. Like, machinist level good if they're mechanical, or with brand name parts if they have clicky switches and levers.
I love to toy with stuff in my hands but I have stupidly unreasonable standards unfortunately.
