I finally had to move to Windows 11, and the UI is just so fucking broken.
I did discover StartAllBack the other day which helped tremendously
like who thought removing the ability to show seconds in the clock flyout was a good choice‽
pretty sure they're already using copilot in the start menu program search. I searched for "not" today because I wanted to open notepad. I got three results, none of which had "not" in their name. like jesus fucking christ that's so bad. one of them literally did not have any of the letters n o or t in the program name.

why can’t they both work from home if they both have the same position?
how does the other guy working from home nagatively affect the parent?
if your answer is “because then the parent has to go in”, then they don’t have the same position
either the position allows for wfh, or it doesn’t.

parents are often afforded flexibility by their bosses that other don’t receive, such as:
“sorry I was late, the school drop off line was slow” –> while their coworker who was equally late because traffic was just exceptionally bad because of a crash is given a write-up
“I won’t be able to cover so and so’s shift this weekend, my kid has a game” –> which leads to a coworker covering who also had plans, but the manager deems their plans less important and tells them they have to even though it’s not their dpmt
I’ve seen both of these things play out exactly like that.

honestly, in today's world and in this context, it's often the same thing
if you're ignorant of what these smart devices are doing in [current year], you're almost definitely stupid for choosing to be ignorant of it. it's been a whole decade of this stuff now. you've been exposed to it, and you've made the chose to remain ignorant.

I tell people to ask first before calling, because it's just polite. otherwise they may not get a response
the only people who can call without notice are my boss and the owner, and even then, if you want me in a good mood and to be prepared for whatever project you're gonna ask about that I haven't thought about in months, it'll go better if you just ask if I have time to talk about xyz
some people don't get it. and those people get to sit there on the line while I bring up the project files in silence
"can I just tell you what's going on-"
"no. because then I'll have questions about your shitty description. so we're gonna wait here until I have the information open for what you're asking about so we're not playing tag later"

disclaimer: I have not tried a dipper
but I do use spoons and even butter knives for honey, and it works fine. well, even. and I’m somebody who likes efficiency and effectiveness in most things. I can’t see why I would want one of these, even after reading all the comments about the pros.
it just doesn’t seem any better for me. I don’t need to carry the honey more than a foot from the jar. I don’t need to be able to dose out the honey from the utensil, because I measure it out when taking it from the jar. I do need to be able to close the honey jar so it seals.
I have half a dozen local honey products in my cupboard rn fwiw

I just bought a 2012 as my ‘new’ vehicle because I don’t want to deal with any stupid tech issues like that
hell, I don’t even like standard traction control - if I press the accelerator, I want the wheels to get power. I’ve been stuck slowly crossing in the middle of an intersection too many times because ESC ‘helped out’ and cut power to the wheels. no mf just spin them until they get to the hard surface below the snowslush

auto high beams do not work every time.
I am routinely blinded by them when people drive through my neighborhood at night and I’m walking my dog, or when I’m biking to the store. and this is in a neighborhood with street lights where high beams are completely and utterly not required in the first place at 40 km/h.

doesn’t work well in my experience. now I typically just leave my mirrors all the way out and up when driving at night, so the headlights never hit my eyes from them
I can see everything I need to from the rearview and turning my head. it’s not like you can see anything using the side mirrors at night when somebody with LED headlights is behind you anyways, all you see is a giant flare and you can’t even tell if it’s in your lane or the next lane or how close it is
LED headlights are literally making the roads less safe by decreasing visibility and awareness
