@techokami@woof.tech this is why I'm happy with NetBSD. I don't need garbage shoved down my throat.

@techokami@woof.tech I don't get why it was patented to begin with, isn't it all just based on QTFF?QTFF has been open since 2001 afaik so it doesn't make a lot of sense to me why mpeg-4 isn't.

Was rereading this talk cause I was bored and it just clicked with me that Fred was one of the people working on Rhapsody before it died. https://web.archive.org/web/20000815061119/http://www.mit.edu/people/wsanchez/papers/USENIX_2000/

@mrmasterkeyboard@mastodon.social I don't really touch arm64e stuff, I have made a script that uses a python snippet I found somewhere online, to edit the header so macOS thinks its normal arm64, and then I slip the binary back in with lipo and codesign the app.

@mrmasterkeyboard@mastodon.social Oh I only built for x86_64, I was using an Intel MacBook Pro on Sonoma. I've thought about doing some stuff(mostly moving my home folder, on my old laptop I had made a firmlink in /usr so I could have my home be /usr/mox but that breaks the seal on the ROSV) on my new laptop, but I really don't want to disable SIP because I run a few iOS apps, and on Apple Silicon you can't run FairPlay encrypted iOS apps without SIP.

@mrmasterkeyboard@mastodon.social iirc I got XNU building for fun once with only minor references to an out of date article, but I hit a wall trying to get the KernelCaches rebuilt or something(idk this was a year ago I don't remember it too well)

long shot that anyone sees this but does anyone have a recommended blocklist for instances with illegal content? I keep seeing things I don't want to see in the mastodon trends review emails and I'm getting frustrated having to go back and forth to manually block instances from federation.

@rebane2001 I would find it funny if I got this given my domain.

@alfonsosiciliano@mastodon.bsd.cafe While I use NetBSD, I'd suggest a method to install and setup Fluxbox and probably other window managers in the setup for people who don't like the overhead having a full DE brings, assuming those aren't already there in the installation environment.
