Well I ran an experiment and went on threads for a bit. Immediately I noticed the algorithm pushes posts at you, forcing engagement. There’s also a lot of AI generated slop and “I didn’t know this until….” Posts with links to five others, to get more engagement. It’s built to be addictive, not good if you have adhd. Disabled my account after a few days.

@c_9@mstdn.ca @BillySmith@social.coop I wonder if there’s a corresponding uptick in accidents and fatalities?

Interesting the BoM app uses map box and open street maps now - I thought it used ESRI?

@luciedigitalni@aus.social @decryption@aus.social fantastic. I’m in Adelaide and cycle daily. It’s flat! Cycling infrastructure is pretty minimal

@luciedigitalni@aus.social @decryption@aus.social the great thing about bikes is you don’t need to have top shelf expensive gear for it to do its job - that’s a great story

@jmaris@eupolicy.social @BillySmith@social.coop we in South Australia are about 75% renewables but still rely on gas and a little coal fired power from interstate. Nuclear and renewables would go together well

@hejsna@ruby.social @tekin@ruby.social thanks that does sound like a toxic community! That ethos does permeate through like any group. I’m not a Ruby user and have only ever briefly paid attention to rails and so on but it’s sad to see this stuff happen. There are many cases of inclusive communities. The recent Python documentary highlights the work needed to do that.

@tekin@ruby.social people are lauding his Linux distro omarchy as “non-woke”. I didn’t work out why until now
