Hello fedi, we have received a number of reports about a new account on our instance for mass-following. This account is moving from their old instance and appears to have imported their following list. We are in the process of making contact with them and have encouraged them to make a post explaining the situation. We don't allow automated accounts that make non-consensual contact like mass follows, and will be confirming with the member that this was indeed just a follow list import while moving accounts.

We personally have seen examples of extremely racist posts from extremely racist accounts that were reported and forwarded to mastodon.cloud and no action has been taken for weeks. If the mods are present and active, they've been given ample notice by the rest of the fediverse to get their instance in order. It would be great news if there was some temporary disruption to moderation but they'll get on it soon, but we've seen no such indication.

We are considering suspending mastodon.cloud as it appears to be unmoderated, and they have taken no action on forwarded reports of accounts that are hideously racist.

However since it is a large, general purpose instance and there are many reciprocal connections between our members and theirs, we want to give time for comment and also proper warning so alternate means of contact can be established if we go ahead with the suspension.

If you are a member here, please get in touch with anyone you care about there and let them know, they likely need to move their account if the instance is indeed unmoderated. Members here can reply local-only to this post by ending it with an 👁️ or toggling "local only" in the web interface - let us know if you know more or have thoughts on a suspension, we aren't a tyranny of mods and always want to seek consensus
