@hanshuebner@mastodon.social and again for the same reasons: price and availability of hardware. but there's no reason to believe that we won't have a second personal computing revolution (unless the big players somehow manage to disable market forces... i'd say the demand clearly is there already, just waiting for supply on the hw and model side)

@lennybacon@infosec.exchange @rotnroll666@mastodon.social that sounds quite dire at first sight, but also indirectly implies that a fine is the only thing that will result in change. i don't think that's necessarily true. sadly, they missed the opportunity to provide a link to their own study.

@lennybacon@infosec.exchange @rotnroll666@mastodon.social sure it's not perfect, but tbh i'm not sure what part of the world i'd like to swap places with right now when it comes to being able to retrieve personal data from companies and instituations. and yes, still a long way to go... but as we know from running/hiking (coming back to garmin), it's all about that next step :)

@rotnroll666@mastodon.social @lennybacon@infosec.exchange as long as it's tied to you as a person, i think their options are quite limited, at least in the eu.

@lennybacon@infosec.exchange @rotnroll666@mastodon.social gpdr is pretty powerful when it comes to personal data, and they do have a section on their site where you can download your complete data.

@rotnroll666@mastodon.social the gdpr is a good first step, but there really needs to be additional legislation that guarantees access to your data through an api by your own means if it's already in place.

@rotnroll666@mastodon.social turns out you can download all your data here: https://www.garmin.com/de-DE/account/datamanagement/ - maybe excessive traffic can convince them 😇

@rotnroll666@mastodon.social fwiw, i'm using garth and it still seems to be working, but apparently that's just because i still have a valid token... bummer :( - we should probably do a well-coordinated gdpr attack
