I use an email list to reach my customers, primarily and people bitch about that too. I'm not defending facebook use itself or in particular. My point, every time I've responded to this thread, is that business owners have better things to do than spend several hours per day trying to cover every single communications channel, niche or mainstream in a pointless effort to appease everyone everywhere.
think of it this way: If you want to visit a business in person at their physical location, you have to go to them whereever that location happens to be. They aren't bringing the building to you.
So do that digitally, too.

Good, I'm glad you're semi aware of it, but you're still not fully aware based on the rest of your reply.
Let me put it to you this way:
What you see as "free and easy" sitting at your desk with nothing else going on, an SBO sees as one more task to endure on top of hundreds of other daily tasks.
Your one email becomes one of dozens or hundreds of emails to sift through and many of those are likely duplicates from impatient people who have also posted to the socials.
Free and easy to you quickly becomes time consuming and as time is money, expensive to an SBO, particularly if they're a solo project.

I'm a small business owner and I gotta yell you: the thing everyone forgets is there are only 24 hours in a day. the more social platforms an SBO decides to cover, the more time it takes to handle all those channels, the less time there is in a day to do the actual business.
FB etc aren't ideal, I agree - but I gotta choose my battles, and the priority is always gonna go to the battles that pay the bills, because thats the reality we live in.
So I guess the moral of my story is before shoulding all over business owners because they don't cover all edge cases for all things, consider they've got a lot more going on than just checking socials all day.
