@atax1a@infosec.exchange A former manager/friend of mine reached out through another friend to see if I was interested in working for him (he started a new job at a place as a CTO) and I was interested riiiight up until it turned out to be a slop company. The money would have been amazing, but I wouldn't have been able to live with myself. Still looking for work otherwise, but like, I can still happily look at myself in the mirror every day.

Good thing I'm continuing to rip my favourite stuff to my local server with yt-dlp, which you should definitely do as well, if you want to be sure you can continue to watch that stuff into the future because who knows what the fuck they're doing over there.

(Make sure you keep yt-dlp up-to-date, and I find it helps to be watching something while ripping, and to pass "--cookies-from-browser firefox" (or your browser-of-choice) to keep from getting blocked, tho sometimes I have to restart the downloads if I'm pulling down a big playlist. You can pick up where you left off by passing "--playlist-start 129" where the number is whatever playlist position you want to start at.)

Complaining about Cory Doctorow and Capitalism Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive

Edit and Preface: If you're going to reply to this defending Doctorow, save your words. You can't convince me otherwise; I disagree fundamentally with him, because he's a capitalist (he just wants a different variety of capitalism) and as the last sentence of this post clearly states, I'm not. I don't think he's right about anything, as he's only "right" if you consider capitalism something worth saving (and even then his ideas ignore human cost and flaws), which I don't. He's trying to slap a band aid on an arterial bleed. Original post: Reminder: Cory Doctorow isn't worth listening to. The problem isn't "enshittification", it's Capitalism, and while he believes you can fix both (his latest is saying the former can be fixed by legalizing reverse engineering, which while needed is absolutely not enough). Allowing reverse engineering and/or right-to-repair don't stop companies from building absolute trash, and wouldn't stop companies from doing anticompetitive shit anyway. Capitalism needs to die.
