Disenchanted with the unholy union of (information) technology and the market. EM Forster nailed it a century ago.

@cwebber@social.coop You're being far too gentle on the latest scourge of humanity. These same folks, a few of whom will _get away_ with vibe coding this or that, will go on to inflict it on the world. There's already enough shitty software. A whole generation thinks needing to periodically reboot a computer is "just how computers are." We don't need more shitty software faster. #Vibecoders are management aspirants, DHHs in the making, people that never wanted to learn how the sausage is made, and still never want to be in the kitchen where it's made. They just want an easy button with which they can "make" something declaratively, by fiat, the same way #AgentOrange claims to be a "builder" by throwing currency at actual builders. Make stupidity expensive again.

@pthane@toot.wales @pheonix@hachyderm.io I'd say because HR and or the CEO also couldn't do _their_ jobs without an AI, but now we have a recursion problem and I'm not sure where the stopping condition for that recursion might lie...

@tante@tldr.nettime.org Probably the most literate summary of our times I've read. Nice work. Anyone that can wield natural language like this would have been a force with formal language(s) and context-free grammars. You might enjoy: https://arxiv.org/abs/2601.05280v2 I certainly am.

Replying to @davidgerard@circumstances.run
@davidgerard@circumstances.run The world itself is forking, self-segregating into two camps. One recognizes that if you don't understand technology *in depth*, you're merely trusting its magic...and the agenda of whoever or whatever is behind it. The AI angle is new, but the folly (of the camp I'm obviously not in) is not fundamentally different from that in Debian's adoption of systemd (summarized perfectly here: https://skarnet.org/software/systemd.html) And indeed, the people I would like to believe know better, often clearly don't.

@Nazani @gwaldby Any Americans, really, but, yes, extract a bit of soon-to-be-useless $$ from the wealthy ones in addition to the exchange of prisoners.

Replying to @VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social
@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Spot on except, I'd replace "man" with "toddler" because his clear decay did not begin from a very advanced intellectual development. The far bigger problem is that ~50% of an ostensibly advanced country thought this moron fit to occupy their presidential palace, and an appalling number are _still_ not embarrassed to be represented by him. They're still out there and they are legion.
