Nothing annoys me more in today apps/web ecosystem than automatic logging out after some period of time 😒

I get why is that a thing... but - it could be done way better I think.

It's so annoying opening big projects in #Xcode 😌 Why all those gigabytes of derived data if you need to reindex and reload everything for minutes anyway?

Even if I accidentally close the project, ad open it again immediately, it reindex all the stuff which may take minutes on large projects…

@JTostitos@techhub.social Ok, having it in context has some benefits. But still - saving 0.5s per change doesn't seem like a huge incentive for me 😅 But hey! Whatever works for you 👍

@JTostitos@techhub.social You can also switch it directly from Xcode when debugging your app 🧐 Not sure if it's worthy to switch entire OS just for that 😅

RE: @pixelscience@mastodon.social

I know it's totally off-topic - but this code snippet shows it clearly - I have NO idea why Swift engineers choose this kind of "switch" "case" alignment by default 🤷‍♂️

Good thing that some people at Apple doesn't like that too and there's a formatting option in Xcode specifically for this, ekhm, "case" 😅

(by default it's "C languages”)

Why #Xcode is spawning a full simulator in the background (via SimulatorTrampoline) even if you open just ONE .xib file by accident 😭

Does Interface Builder using Simulator in the background now or what?

This not only lights up all your CPU cores for a while but also consumes a gigabytes of RAM just for this - in addition to Xcode usual several gigabytes.

And maybe it's sad - but I might never again use #iPad with a monitor this way! It's fine, but connecting a MacBook is simply more productive anyway 🤷‍♂️ If I would have just one computing device - then for sure, a monitor is a useful accessory for the iPad, but otherwise - not really I think 🤔

And I must admit - hardware is amazing! Especially screen. There's also something weird about using it with my monitor + keyboard & mouse in windowed mode. A weird macOS from alternative reality I guess? iOS limitations though, are still apparent despite some progress (and even more so in a desktop mode) #iPad

I finally found a "solution" to my iPad Pro (2018) upgrade conundrum.

Current #iPad lineup is confusing to say the least. IMO completely missing the point.

Base iPad is too weak, iPad Air have unnecessarily powerful SoC in a shitty hardware (screen mostly) - and iPads Pro are expensive overkills.

So I finally found a refurbished M4 iPad Pro for just slightly more than new iPad Air M4

I can't believe why perfectly fine, simple Contacts app was massacred 😵‍💫

All those HUGE avatars makes no sense, they slow everything down to a crawl even n fast devices.

Also Spotlight showing recent messages & photos first instead of actually useful data like contact informations.

RE: @krzyzanowskim@mastodon.social

Omg yes! I can't comprehend why multiple windows somehow seems like something hard to do with Electron, why is that?

Is it because websites are inherently "single page" and that limitation extends to web apps on desktop? 🧐

@mwichary@mastodon.online How so? I really wouldn't consider developers as <0.1% of Macs userbase - even if I might be a little bit biased 😉 But even for regular users, what are the downsides, truly? I kind of get it, that with more advanced apps, more shortcuts were needed, and Control key somewhat allows for that. Control key on the Macs is present on their keyboards since I was born, according to your article (1987) - almost 4 decades - I can only imagine the backlash 😅 (I would be pissed too)

@mwichary@mastodon.online Sure - but in this case - I'll keep my position 😉 Globe - do not use it for system control, that's awful Control - keep it, it's useful and used for decades 🙏 Another argument for Control - it allows for better compatibility with other OS'es on the Mac - and some users do use them, in the VMs for example, or via emulation.

@mwichary@mastodon.online Ok, but Terminal is a standard system component - it has to support it somehow by default , especially that POSIX conventions specifically mention „ctrl” as the button for those functionality, so it avoids confusion. And „Control" on Macs at this point is also widely used in shortcuts across the system. I use it all the time. But for globe/fn confusion - I fully agree 🤓

@mwichary@mastodon.online One note - "Control" on Macs are quite useful because of Terminal apps. Command key is already purpused with UI-related stuff and shortcuts, thanks to that it's possible to easily copy/paste text in terminal apps on a Mac which is a struggle on Windows & Linux 😉
