Animist. Musician. NSFP (Not Safe For People). Majored in religious studies and minored in folklore, which basically means I know more about mythology than most people want to conceive of. It is neither normal nor practical, and I like it that way. I play, more or less well, a bunch of different instruments from around the world, it all began with khomus/Drummbel (A.K.A. the Jew's harp). Ich lann Pennsilfaanisch Deitsch. Ich schwetz bissel.

More recorder: Actual folk recorder playing, which totes exists, is really hard to find out about. Meet the sjofloyte, "sea flute”, the Norwegian folk recorder, except sometimes it's just a standard manufactured alto. If anybody else knows about actual folk recorder traditions, i.e. not just people playing folk tunes on recorder out of a book, do let us all know please! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7c9ckNdFC88 #Recorder #NorwegianFolkMusic #Folkmusic #ethnomusicology

Because of a chunk of the blind community essentially claiming the Mac is unusable by the blind due to various issues, (they are wrong obviously since I'm writing this post on one right now), I’ve set my Voiceover welcome message to “You will never be productive again”! Sometimes things will briefly say “X not responding". Today's message? "Spotlight is not responding. You will never be productive again”!

Every day, I wake up to Spotify's "Norwegian folk mix". I don't think these people are Norwegian or even Scandinavian, but so far, I know nothing about them except this song exists, and it's pretty cool. #Worldmusic https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kDV38CxNX4GhZxIzBmQIFgIpQ09lfu4z0 Looks like they have quite a bit of stuff out. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCB66V1Yd5MxzgYsSBuhkrDA Anybody know anything about them? Like where are they from? Where do I buy their stuff? Google *helpfully* keeps wanting to correct them from Tindia to India. Thanks AI!

I love Pennsylvania Dutch. “I wonder" is “es wunnert mich", Lit. "it wonders me”, which is an expression in PA Dutch English I use fairly regularly. Why do I love it? Because you don't just "wonder". Wonder is always that relationship, you have encountered something, and it causes you wonder. Es wunnert mich. It wonders me. The other Germanic languages have this too, no doubt, or some of them anyway. But I grew up with PA Dutch, so there you go.

@cassana Awesome! I don't usually comment about me as a blind dude, but speaking as a blind dude, this stuff is really cool. Because how else are we gonna find out about it? Skulls. Skulls for everybody! You get a skull, and you get a skull, and you get a skul, and … Seriously though, it's great that you get to dig into something you're really interested in like this. Can you distinguish the reconstructed areas from the original stuff?

@cassana This video makes me think of sauerkraut. Historically contingent as a survival food, still used because it's tasty. African poor people survival foods will be different, but I bet they totally exist. So right there, the differences, e.g. environment with farming and winters in Europe, but also the commonalities, what are you doing for lean times. There you go, not metaphysical, but if you wondered whether or not I'm Pennsylvania Dutch, well, mystery solved! (1/2)
