People often say Mastodon is confusing because they don’t know what server to join. I’ve found it to be the opposite. My server is almost immaterial. My feed is who I chose to follow just like twitter was before they ruined it with algorithms. But I always feel like I’m missing something when people talk about what server they’re on. It all is essentially the same once I follow that person. 100% of my Mastodon usage is via Ivory. Am I missing something?

I never thought I’d live long enough to “program” by writing instructions to a computer in plain English in Markdown and then hoping the computer understood English well enough and that I wrote the English clear enough to do what I want it to do.

61 candidates for governor alone. This is violence.

If you spent 10m researching each candidate (which many you can dismiss instantly but many deserve more than 10m so let’s say 10m average) that’s 10hr & 10m of research *just* for the governor. And then remember there’s four more pages of candidates for other positions.

I’m gonna try to add a ballot prop next election called The Wu-Tang Limit. You cannot have more than nine people. If someone had a strong case they can be a 10th. We’ll call that the Cappadonna clause.

This is insanity.

I was debating whether or not to post it here, but I settled on posting it here.

After 7mo sabbatical and 3.5 months of job hunting I started as a Staff Software Engineer at Gusto on Monday. Pretty happy the job hunt is over. Excited about the new work place. Seems positive overall. Onboarding is pretty top knotch.

I don’t fully understand it beyond that through a very specific series of events you can use a 732 bit python script to change su in memory and somehow gain full root access. Still feels like this is a pretty fringe thing. I wonder if there’s any known cases of the exploit being used.

My PS5 has been overheating. I searched the internet and it said a few things:

1. Vertically standing it up is known to cause issues because the liquid metal drips down due to gravity leaving exposed spots.
2. It doesn’t use thermal paste, it uses liquid metal which is a new type of thermal dispersement… goo. It looks like mercury and it is unlike any liquid/solid I’ve evrer worked with.
3. The liquid metal, just like thermal paste, can need replacing.

Because I’m me I decided to buy a tube of liquid metal ($9) and replace it. Followed a YouTube guide today despite having taken a PS5 apart before. It didn’t turn back on when I reassembled it and I panicked a bit. I thought it was the suspect ribbon cable and after taking it apart again it indeed was. Terrible clip/clamp thingy.

All in all working with liquid metal was cool, I feel rad for having fixed my own PS5 (again), and the iFixIt electronics/computer kit thingy I have has seen a lot of use at this point. Well worth the $60 or whatever I paid.

I started to hate the game and resent the battlepass model (seasonal artifact) and the daily grind. But if I didn't keep up then I couldn't raid w/ friends (which was the main draw for me). To prevent myself from getting toxic I just quietly backed away. But that sadly meant losing access to a lot of you lovely folks. We yap on here now, but it's not the same. Also Slack == Work to me (it's also literally their stock ticker). So I am loathe to install it on a personal computer or run it outside of work hours. Keeping Slack open meant seeing my work Slack's notifications or just being tempted to go look at it in the side bar while I was hanging out at a decidedly non-work place with you all. If everyone's on a Discord I'd love to join, but I can't do Slack for non-work again.
