@ryanmcshane@fosstodon.org I was hoping := docs might give us a formal name for = (in contrast), but it looks like it's always unnamed. The closest I can find is this in AdvR: https://adv-r.hadley.nz/quasiquotation.html?q=:=#tidy-dots:~:text=pronounced%20colon%2Dequals
"Note the use of := (pronounced colon-equals) rather than =."
So if := is "colon-equals", I guess = is just "equals".
I feel like there HAS to be a formal programming term for this, since it's possible for them to be different. It might just be "variable assignment" vs "argument assignment".
