@FediTips@social.growyourown.services Gosh they could of simply suggested saying "recommendation algorithm" lol, same as one would say generative AI instead of just AI. Computers in general are algorithms, the basic raw sense of AI is algorithms, and aren't in itself bad things that the shitty recommendation algorithms and generative LLMs sure are that are co-opting those terms. But that's such a bad hill for them to be on getting pissy at you that hey you're spreading disinformation.. they could of just asked constructively for an adjustment in language because of.. rather than going the accusatory route as if they were calling you out on something bigoted.. unless their idea of bigotry stops are those poor algorithms lol. But for goodness sake lol when you're there acknowledging other meanings too just what the heck was any of that lol. Some folks geez

I was only thinking of this the other day a federated alternative to eBay / Gumtree / Shpock / Zucker Marketplace / Craigslist would be sweet. Like um, not that gonna be replacing any day soon, and it's annoying that well there's literally like no escaping eBay when you have well shit to get sold lol, but yea super interested in this fr. Thing that eBay despite it's fees and everything though, has going for it that just sure hecking adds safety is the whole payments going well through them, that's already out the way and buyer that's collecting when it's a collection sale, needs to bring a collection code. On buyer's behalf, so eBay knows when the buyer has collected the item, and on seller's behalf so that know it's well the buyer that handing the item to, and that backup to say yes the buyer has collected as wouldn't of gotten the code otherwise, and also that again payment being already out the way before even given the postcode, and everything, sure hecking saves the possibility of a buyer trying to haggle your price at your doorstep.. or even worse since well they do that at your doorstep coming out the way then it's their loss, but when you agreed to go out your way to deliver and like my first "sale" experience was on Gumtree, buyer wanted this, and me to deliver which was happy doing, then asked this and that okay fair, agree a price, £8 for the lot plus £2 for me coming out so £10, then they ask if I could get them a laptop within £150 for that day I was coming out, I said I'd be willing to take half from them when I come and get said laptop I linked for middle the next week and come back with it, for the rest, which they were fair not comfortable about but same any wonder I wasn't comfortable getting ahead of time.. I go there that day, call to say I'm there actually an hour ahead of time so there whenever they're ready, they go to withdraw money and oh what do I get, a message like half hour before the agreed time they don't have enough in their bank for that agreed £10 ._. and thereeee they were wanting a fricken laptop. So I simply said "no worries take care", blocked and went home. Likely had I actually stayed put to see if they still came to said meeting point incase I missed their message maybe to pass the £2 at least for me coming out, probably would of been them trying to get the items for £5. Compared to situation where I sold on ebay to buyer who asked for me to deliver to them, who gave a whole £10 for me coming that way out. But then well maybe fedi might actually turn out to be a better experience in that kind of regard that um like I'm sure if I was to use my .art and I piss assed someone around with a sale Pixie certainly wouldn't be happy at all with me, so maybe in that regard folks are more likely to not ass you around like someone on Gumtree or the like may be that until you meet and greet them are a faceless individual, which well same can be so here but are they really, everyone's behind an admin/instance/domain.. and unlike eBay's "buy now", not like we the seller don't have a say in whether to accept a sale or so. Which seriously is one thing I wish on eBay.. that they have the send offer functionality, it'd be soooo good if could just have listings set to only a send offer button being available, no buy now, so hey you also want to sell on etsy, or on your site or somewhere and treat such as primary that have "buy now"? You don't have to risk situations where something that just sold on your site same time/before you have a chance is also sold through buy now on eBay and then bam who do you honour, who do you accept getting a negative feedback from. I certainly wouldn't be willing to risk that. Whereas if eBay had option to just behave like Craigslist/Gumtree/Shpock/Zucker marketplace by only having the send offer button, then could easily make use of another marketplace with buy now, and hey it sells there and someone same time sends offer on eBay? No biggy you just delist it on eBay same as any other classified ad marketplace. But nope eBay forces you to be of course making eBay primary if you're going to use them at all.. or again just take the risk having multiple buy now locations for same stuff and get bad feedback for having to cancel on people when such clashes happen. Real tricky scenario tbh with a decentralised alternative to ebay is not so much collection sales that organise and so pay by cash, but postage sales. As like oh hey my only thing I have available as a form of payment other than going via eBay or in Shpock's case enabling the buy now for postage and payment being processed by Shpock, only other means I have is well providing my bank payment link, which is well super convenient just takes card/apple pay/google pay/stripe link, but it's still.. a simplified bank transfer so that of course no buyer protection, that well haha I got your money bye, but then also that well also the case for hey using it for in person payments instead of hard cash, is the buyer legal name being exposed by doing such which maybe isn't wanted. Plus in a case where um I post to the address as given correctly, but it gets nabbed from the safe place, so buyer doesn't have it, they have no form of getting money back since sure ain't getting anything from the courier who did their duty, I did my duty. With eBay, the process would be the buyer opens an item not received case, closes in my, the seller, favor since it's been successfully per tracking delivered and address checks out matches that as was provided, and so next up.. they take it to their bank to get a charge back. Since I already won an INR case, eBay wouldn't hold against me and wouldn't charge the £16 fee, unlike if no INR case happened. Unlike using just Stripe or so, then a chargeback can happen no less risk in such scenario and well as a seller there would be no INR to get buyer to do first and so yup absolutely gonna lose out as the seller should of just refunded in the first place. Certainly unfair whichever way that someone has to pay when it's that well the buyer's safe place isn't a safe place. But yea. Also in such a case that a buyer refused something to return to sender or they botched up doing the wrong address, in regards to ebay, in such scenario the item is no longer covered by the MBG, and so as seller no obligation to refund. As like hey it's returning to sender, it gets lost, and courier isn't cooperating with compensating? Or the item that went to the wrong address those people didn't do the honest thing and return? It's going to clearly go towards the chargeback to solve the situation in the end. Again, it's an unfair result that someone has to pay the price for the mess up. But yea without the way eBay is in this case, with alternative means like Stripe, I'd be unprotected to a chargeback, or PayPal that would very quickly side with a buyer saying I sent them bricks. And then of course going the way that is safest to me the seller, using my payment link so aka bank transfer, well it's all on trust and there is absolutely zero fall back in such situation. But then again with classified ad pay by means you both agree, rather than at all with eBay, of course you don't have ebay stepping in in situations where buyer trying it on maybe being impatient with um no I cannot refund your item that hasn't even been 10 working days since the delivery due by date yet before Royal Mail will even consider something lost in post and consider a compensation claim.. and eBay goes ahead oh yea let's refund that £100 and then oh next day it turns up, but haha buyer has their money back and tough luck, can't take legal action either against the buyer since well the thief there is eBay. But then again, with the information you have to hand to eBay, especially also with you only accepting payment via eBay, can well in theory be very confident with collections that um I don't have the time to meet and greet in some safe location that's not my home address to not give my home address and all, that um I have to adventure to wherever by bus and well I sure ain't again going go adventuring out without a deposit so um if they want to waste the whole time then it's on them not a haha I cane out and had my time wasted at no cost to them. But yea on eBay have someone come to home address to collect that well if they were to do anything, um they ain't an anonymous entity, eBay has a hell a lot on them, along with their bank, so they're not going to likely be so nieve. But then that of course actually again is in theory as like you can't underestimate how fast someone could get triggered over something and do something, and eBay being in such a situation that they can't do anything as it's all just going by hearsay. But then also well eBay also is very silly actually not allowing one to have just a send offer on their listings without buy now, especially when it comes to collections, that you said buyer that bought now on collection only, their profile showing them to be a red flag and so you cancel the sale and block. Haha now look at negative feedback. And eBay in such situation would just be like well um if anything happened you just report to us. Not that you saw a red flag, and so you prevented the possiblity of said thing before. eBay is just well simply yea they'll take action and all about stuff but then actually don't. Like um people on the phone often care from my experience, but then the corporate company is well yeaaa just that, so they don't. But then still, compared to like hey I'm just on gumtree from just handing my email, no other information, so um that's absolutely zero information for accountability.. well of course there's IP too but umm that's literally zilch in regards to dealing with shit that's gone dour with meet and greet collection sales and things, and so many on Gumtree feel and the like, well they're anonymous for the most part where it matters at least, so they can do whatever, at worst it's just going to be bye bye to their account. That is just something that again maybe a fedi way of such better because again.. umm it's going to be based on what is one's instance? And it's all down to what one's form of comfort from such and info digging at their fedi activity and all provides. All do know, gotta be very vigilant, but is very possible it can actually be a mechanic for a safer way of in person collection sales from classified ads than through stuff like Craigslist / Gumtree with absolutely no accountability being anywhere in the process. And like of course same such for Zucker marketplace but then at least the one thing on there folks have whole profiles to stalk to see if they can be trusted or whatever, not that that says they can be "trusted" as that's just naive.. as that's same as oh a buyer with a higher feedback score on eBay, is at all safer of a bet than someone with no feedback at all. Buyers with feedback scores in the 1000s can be more likely to be problematic and be a chancer and abuse a situation than a buyer with 5 or heck even 0 score. And yet some buyers want to just have an auto block buyers with less scores than such and such amount as if that helps anything. Sure damn hope decentralised selling can become more common place and well safety being a string focus on that, that well.. at end of the day this is just really like just a website shop with fedi integration and well if someone wants to use it as a means for postage sales, and as such has a way of providing buyer security that isn't just oh PayPal, well tbh the likelihood tbh that a transaction using say Stripe where as seller don't have protection from chargebacks, where said transaction is from here on fedi, if a buyer maliciously did such, they come from a reputable instance, well umm, I'm very sure they're going to have a consequence they very much would be pleading to not happen. And so someone probably wouldn't act maliciously like such where they know the price to pay is their beloved fedi account and all the connections they have, all for such a petty thing. But then well the biggest thing is.. having faith in what instance they are on. They're an admin? Better have strong faith in them themselves. They're a user of an instance you never heard of? I'd possibly give a miss. From an instance that friendly with the admins, trust the moderation of that would definitely back you up if said user did anything malicious? Well the ones that will be at a greater loss from their poor decision would be themselves. Equally same would it be mine as a seller I scammed whilst having my whole fedi identity there on display ready to be fediblocked. And whichever way it goes, how strongly folks are for mutual aid here, it's certainly not like you're suddenly on your own after such events whoever is victim of malicious behavior. And plus again well fediblock.. scammers sure ain't gonna outpace the appending fediblock(s).. .. Which is well more than the likes of what is the case so often on many marketplaces that sure they'll be kicked off but they'll pop up again but then oh it's a top rated eBay seller that's doing malicious behavior, oh you say in negative feedback about them violating private laws and them violating your data consent by oh you told them use this damn courier they go behind your back give your details to a complete different company like cough Evri cough instead of Royal Mail or when they say "Other Courier" and what they mean by that oh they're just going ahead ordering for you ever so nicely for you from Amazon as a gift for you, going a step even further violating drop shipping rules and violating gifting rules and again data laws, giving your data to a entirely different retail store company. And so yea you are there even showing proof of that behavior and those violations and oh what do you know eBay removes the feedback. But then as a private individual seller, someone goes there cursing at you in a negative feedback, even going ahead leaving slurs and such abuse in messages to you, oh no they won't remove said feedback because it's not a violation because no human checks ever for context with such, and you have no way to appeal decisions where a human then does take into context. It's is early days decentralised classified ads tied to fedi and all, and I'm here for it. But yea.. so much damn safety to consider into it. Like um unlike eBay where I'm for most part going to be pretty good hands to have buyers that are collecting just collecting from door step, especially also that well they already paid in advance and everything, so they're probably not so fussed with needing it be all checked there and then when um no you can't come indoors, if it's not as I described when you get back you open a case for such or whatever, even though generally trying to ensure buyers are to see said thing and be happy beforehand is good. But then yea in terms of like here fedi, go ahead give out your collection address as your doorstep and next thing you know you have yourself doxxed. But then well no more no less a risk than same shit as on gumtree fb and shit that they splash your address on snapchat and all. But yea.. still. Don't want to end up with someone from Piece Of Absolute ShiT land at your doorstep. Not that I'd want a meet and greet in any form anywhere with them in any form.
