@smerp All I can tell you is that every last damned weird bullshit thing about mDNS-SD is there because a) people refused to adopt SLP and b) mDNS-SD as bad as it is was still better than LLMNR. You may think it's doing weird shit that makes no sense, but I assure you if it were different, then there would be insanely weird cascading failures attributed to it that would get everything trying to use it banned. I was there when it was in development, and I tried to stop them, but the basic logic of mDNS-SD could not be stopped.
