@Sharonbw@mastodon.online Hi, Sharon...I would love to see some ospreys...haven't seen many raptors this year at all...just one eagle flying over my house and, of course, hawks...but they're pretty common here...just saw that the reason the cormorants stand with their wings spread is that their feathers are not waterproof...interesting...hope you have a nice day!

Well...not a whole lot going on around here today but the rides were fun even starting out in the dark...had to ride over to the city offices to pay my water bill...the two days of watering the yard for an hour each cost me 10 bucks so I'm not sure I'll do that again...okay, I probably will to try to keep the lawn alive until it rains...only 3 deer out this morning and no turkeys but I did see some cormorants in Muskegon Lake perched on the stumps in the water...good morning! #today

Well...the Canadian wildfire smoke has reached us here in Muskegon and the AQI is up to 277 which means stay inside and no outdoor activity...so, of course, I had to go out for a ride but I didn't know how bad the smoke was until I started coughing like crazy out at the beach and I still feel like I can't get enough air...so I closed up the house and turned the hepa filters on and that should help...so, I won't be going back out today...it smells like we're in a campfire...good morning! #today

Well..the 2nd ride started out a little interesting when I got down the hill to the trail and there was a nasty vibration in the bike somewhere so I had to stop and look..found that the front tire had failed in two places and had two huge bulges in it..so I came back here and found that I had saved a tire with about 1/4 tread from the back of the bike so used that one to replace the failed one until I can get out and get another one tomorrow..and then got a nice ride in...good afternoon!

Well...a little wildlife this morning on the first ride...the first photo is of the 7 turkeys that were just walking down the middle of the road on the way out to the beach..and they all crossed safely...the 2nd one is of the swan family that I never thought I'd see again...pretty cool...have the first ride in and now it's MotoGP and the F1 race from Monaco and then back out for ride 2...good morning!

Well...had fun rides in the fog this morning but when I got to the tunnel of trees on the 2nd, the sun broke through the gloom and gave me this to ride in...early, you couldn't tell there was even a lake to the right...it was just a wall of white and my fleece turned white from the water droplets it collected...pretty darn cool...the swans have disappeared and that's a little disappointing after watching them for a month but not unexpected...good morning!

Well...it's babies day today and the swan I've been watching for a month finally revealed her 4 cygnets as she took them for a swim...I know something was up when the male climbed up next to the nest a few days ago to wait it out...and the 2nd photo is of a female turkey walking down the trail with 8-10 chicks that must have just hatched they are so tiny...and we have rain coming in about 20 minutes and I can't wait...good morning!

Well..saw this freighter this morning just about to go into the channel...I think it's the one that ran aground twice the past couple of years...but they finished the dredging so it made it through fine...got two good rides in this morning and then lots of yard work and now it's 11:30am and I am done for the day...think I'm going to have baked chicken with roasted asparagus for lunch...made pickled red onions and pickles yesterday and will have some with dinner...good morning!

Well...the pattern continues with getting up around 5am again and I had all the indoor stuff done by 7:14...and now I have the luxury of sitting here with coffee as I wait for the temp to come up out of the 40's so I can get an outdoor ride in...just one today since I am pretty sore from doing 34 miles yesterday and I have the living room to clean...and I want to see Indy practice today when they turn the horsepower up and we should see speeds in the 230's...good morning!

Well...what a nice day for an outdoor ride! Still cold at 52 but the sunshine made it feel warmer...no wildlife at all and that disappointed me a bit but it hasn't been unusual to not see any..it felt good to have the wind at my back and sprint in 24th gear all the way back from the beach...the ham soup came out great and I have the recipe down on this one...by far my favorite soup that I make and I'm looking forward to having it all week...now it's reading time...good afternoon!

Well...this morning didn't go like I planned...when I got to Discount Tire, they said they couldn't balance my tires since they are 10 years old...no matter that they are not weather cracked and look new and spent their whole life in a climate controlled garage...needless to say, this lack of common sense has soured me on them and I'll never use them again...so I found an independent shop here that said "no problem, bring it in at noon" so that's where I'll be heading here in a minute...

@Sharonbw@mastodon.online Hi, Sharon...yeah, I felt a little bad for them, too...they were there trying on the way out and still there trying on the way back 20 minutes later...and there were a few females on the inside of the fence...I can't believe I've had the car for a year, either...1,500 miles for the year but that will be the peak and now I'm back down to 7-8 miles a week...I did go out to run an errand today with the top down and that was fun...hope you had a nice day!

Well...on a lighter note..turkeys! These two sleek toms were trying to get through the fence this morning..don't think any of the older ones have taught them they can just fly over it...and you can see the others in the far background...it was really nice to get an outdoor ride in before the next high wind warning kicks in at 11am..not sure if I'll get back outside this week with highs around 50 until Sunday...I forgot the one year anniversary of buying my car on May 2nd...good morning!

Well...as of every year, I mark the day of the Kent State massacre that happened 56 years ago today..at that time, I was a 16 year old kid trying to figure out where I fit in the world and with the spectre of being drafted hanging over my head...I could not believe that our government would kill us for exercising our first amendment rights as I had many times in protest of the Vietnam war...I still see the photo of Mary Ann Vechhio over the body of Jeffrey Miller...4 dead in Ohio....

Well...I guess I'm going to stop obsessing about how and how much I sleep...went to bed later last night and still got out of bed at 4:30am and that makes it a solid 6 hours which is pretty normal for me...Mars was really bright in the sky last night and that was pretty cool...I am a sky geek and little things like that make me smile...it's warm enough to get out on the bike as soon as it gets light and I'm hoping to get 2 outdoor rides in before the rain comes in...good morning!

Well..did anyone else see the lunar eclipse this morning...the moon really was red and I got to see a few minutes before the clouds moved in...pretty cool! I guess that is one benefit of not sleeping much...that and I had everything done before 9am this morning...finished up the books I got from the library last week so I'll head over there tomorrow after the grocery run but I am running out of the authors I like so I may just wander the stacks to find something...good morning!

That's way too much...hope your power stayed on...we didn't get any snow overnight but it's still cold here at 17 degrees...going to Italy on September 20th and back on October 2nd...it's nice going with my daughter since she is so organized and travels a lot so all I have to do is trail in her wake...hope you can dig out and have a good day!

Well...man, it's bright out here with not a cloud in the sky and I think it's the first day this year that I could say that...sure not used to that after the clouds every other day this year so far...did 456 miles on the bike this month but need to pick up the pace to have a reasonable year...not sure what a reasonable year is but it will have to be over 8K miles...still cold out here at 12 degrees but, with the sun, shoveling was pretty toasty...it's 11:20am and I'm done...good morning! #today

Well...have the first ride in and the weather was perfect for it...upper 60's, little wind, and sunny and I felt like I had a lot of energy...funny how eating enough will do that...saw a big group of deer cross in front of me yesterday morning and it looks like the fawn twins found their mama and that made me smile..4 fawns and 3 does and they just stood at the side of the road as I rode by...need to get moving to get the grocery run done...good morning!
