@oleksiy@sonomu.club I didn't know that this is his usual performance style. It definitely had a mood, and the sound was pretty good. I just wish it had been a bit longer. He surely has enough material to fill up a 2-hour set.

I went to see #Tricky on Friday. Only, I didn't really see him, since the stage was mostly dark. I also didn't hear him much, only the two singers he had with him. So I'm not 100% sure he was actually there.

And after one hour it was over, surprised faces all around as the lights came on, and everybody was like "Why did I pay 54 quid for this?"

@stephan@sonomu.club I think it will always be difficult to interest groups like coworkers in one's art, regardless of the quality. They are peers, and without external validation like a record deal or media attention, they will not perceive one of their own as deserving their interest. The exception will be people who have an understanding of the art itself, and are therefore more likely to be open to it. So I never expect anybody to want to listen to what I do. Nice if they do anyways.

One of my coworkers just waved one of our CDs at me, which he bought through Bandcamp, after having listened to the songs. I must admit this has made me quite happy.

Learned something new: In this rig rundown, Kenny Vaughan shows how he tunes a 12-string so that the string pairs are alternating major and minor thirds, making it easy to play harmonised melody lines. I never even thought about the possibility of not tuning the strings to the same note.

I won't run out and buy a 12-string now, but still: How cool is that? And the little Genesis pattern and chords that he plays at 35:08 sound amazing.

@boxspring@mastodon.social @samvarma@fosstodon.org Nice. Yes, a Muff only works for me when boosted by a Tubescreamer, and even then I find them difficult. I found one Muff in a shop that sounded amazing played through a tiny Friedman combo they had, exactly the growling sound I was looking for. Sadly I bought the fuzz, not the amp. Never managed to get that sound again.

@flavigula@sonomu.club Yes, I hope it will make it on the next record. If not, it will go on the stack for that solo release that I keep talking about since 5 years or so. :-D

@samvarma@fosstodon.org Yes, exactly. I don't know how "historically-correct-sounding" the four fuzz circuits are, but I very much like the range of sounds it produces. And it cleans up very nicely as well. Quite happy with it so far.

NPD: Got the CTC Triptychon, which is an overdrive, a fuzz and a booster in one pedal, all individually switchable.

I first ran it into the Simplifier and was a little underwhelmed. But then I tried it in front of the Friedman IR-X, and that sounds so much better. There's tons of cool sounds in this thing, and the OD and boost work well with other pedals, too.

So this won't be my new all-in-one pedal for live as planned, but a sound tool for recording at home.

@flavigula@sonomu.club Well, I can't speak for them, but I believe not all of them enjoy it as much as I do. Plus it would be a weird stylistic mix to suddenly break into a 3 minute organ solo. We do like to surprise the audience, but that might be taking it a bit too far. :-)

Looks like I overcame my non-productive phase (fingers crossed): I recorded a quick demo of a new song idea and sent it in to the InSect quality management department for inspection.

Now I just need to convince the rest of the band that having part of the song in 5/4 does not mean it's Progrock. If that's what the song wants, that's what it needs to be.

It's #BandcampFriday, so I hope you don't mind if I post about our recently released record again. I think it turned out pretty nice, has a good mix of #postpunk/ #gothrock/ #powerpop tunes, and the CD can be used as a beer coaster when not in the player.

Today is our official album release #gig, at the Fiddler's Elbow, so here's today's board.

The Simplifier had a great debut on Friday, hope it will continue to simplify tonight. I also used the Klinger Mk1 for anything high gain. Sounds great, but the switch sits fairly high, and it is a tall pedal, so there were a few miss-steps. Need to be more careful today.

I also put on the Maxon in place of the Riot, just to have something sounding slightly different than a modded Marshall.

Our promo video for the song "Waning Room" is out. Spike Jonze cancelled on us last minute, so it became a DIY affair. I hope it still gets the theme and mood of the song across, despite the obvious discomfort of certain band members with being in front of a camera. Hey, I express myself through my fingers, not my face.

#BandcampFriday is here, and finally I too have something to suggest: Check out our freshly finished record! 💥

https://wearetheinsect.bandcamp.com/album/as-it-ever-was

It's still pre-order right now, but you get a taste of it with three tracks hopefully showing the stylistic range we're trying to capture. Get it now while it still smells fresh.
