When I started watching #Silo, it was "okay". It felt a bit too much like Fallout-franchise style dystopia. 😒

But since the end of season 2 and the connections to our present, the whole thing got much more intense. 😱

I barely watch anything (we do not even have a TV) and I am not the TV-series-type of person but I cannot wait for next Friday. 🫠

I now that a lot of people are put off by the memory trope. Me, on the other hand, I am tormented by the tension. 😅

Still can't get over that cloud…

The tenacious misconception persists that #Nextcloud always pumps out half-baked features reliability and performance are not pursued. 🫠

The truth sounds different and we continuously show it with every major release. 🙂

After years I finally got to try out #Xcode Cloud and I am delighted by the convenience. It is a good option for a simple pet project native to macOS.

I am used to setting up and maintaining while CI/CD pipelines from commit to App Store publishing in GitLab.

Okay, one step further (actually back into the past, as I remember this class of problems now) with the whole FinderSync extension problems of the #Nextcloud desktop client.

Other third-party apps may sabotage and break our integration solely by being installed and shipping their own extensions which are enabled. And there is nothing we can do about it except to tell users to disable the extensions of the other third-party apps. 😑

Most issues in file providers arise from trying to bridge significantly different concepts and patterns which were designed decades apart. Given server APIs designed with file providers in mind, it would be much easier. Most importantly: change detection at scale. I mean: many clients, many folders and many files. Each with a bunch of trailing zeros in number.

…I think the worst part of Apple file providers is the underestimation of their complexity in practical implementation. The (nowadays existing) documentation reads rather simple. At my previous job we worked full time on a file provider with four people for two years until we had a 1.0.0 release. And later we still started over from scratch to get it right after figuring things out by experience.

#Nextcloud desktop client for 33.0.7 is bound for release today which ships an important fix for the discovery of server-side changes. 🫣

There has been a regression shipped with 33.0.6 which broke that. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Now excuse me please, I need some time to invest heavily on end to end tests on the file provider never let that happen again.

Interestingly, I realize that this roots in the topic of appropriate funding and resource allocation of open source projects. 🤔

I started writing my first #MCP to use in #Claude for quickly spinning up local #Nextcloud server containers (and disposing them) to set up test scenarios for bug reports.

The implementation is easier than to get Claude Code to understand how to use it. 🙄

Finally I figured out why #Xcode could not resolve breakpoints in the #Nextcloud desktop client extensions. 😮‍💨 That was tricky to trace down.

In a nutshell: Make sure your dSYMs are in a directory indexed by Spotlight and not some dot-directory or other excluded location. 🤪
