@nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social @evacide@hachyderm.io Not only despite it - they actively weaponized it against them. That's why they won by such a landslide. Was some very shrewd politicking. We could all take some lessons there on how to use a system against itself rather than just willing it to change...

@Jazone@theforkiverse.com @QasimRashid@mastodon.social now that's a good note of agreement to leave it on. Cheers. 🙂

@Jazone@theforkiverse.com @QasimRashid@mastodon.social it certainly matters if the people voting believe it though. I agree the Republicans are divorced from reality, but all the more reason not to be overly concerned about assuaging them, because nothing will. You're better off getting your base actually excited to vote for you again, and Mamdani has been a rare bright spot to that end. We might just have to disagree on strategy on this one, I think we just aren't reading the room the same at all. I guess we'll have to see.

@Jazone@theforkiverse.com @QasimRashid@mastodon.social you're still missing my point: ain't nobody thinks Mamdani is a communist in the first place. You can't call people as milquetoast as Biden, not to mention Harris and Obama, and every opponent you ever face, a communist and still expect the accusation to carry any weight. People just stop buying it.

@Jazone@theforkiverse.com @QasimRashid@mastodon.social nothing I've said could be remotely interpreted as purity testing unless you don't know what that means. I'm saying that only dyed in the wool conservatives who would never vote for a Democrat are engaging in the communism hysteria around Mamdani. The rest of the country hasn't cared about the right crying communist since they overplayed it with Obama. Nobody's paying attention to that accusation anymore, y'all blew your proverbial wad on that.

@Jazone@theforkiverse.com @QasimRashid@mastodon.social anyone who thinks Mamdani is a communist is too far gone and never would've voted for anyone other than a Republican anyway. Polls tell a different story. The guy has huge appeal among Democratic voters throughout the country.

@XNHQ@mastodon.social I think encryption at rest is real privacy. I think other features like the alias generation also are strong privacy tools. I do agree there are more robust privacy tools, but like anything there's a spectrum on convenience vs privacy and they're clearly trying to walk a line between them with a full suite even if that comes at the cost of things like a bigger attack surface. Reasonable minds may disagree and err towards something even stronger though, so I see your position.

@XNHQ@mastodon.social a difference though is Google had a strong incentive to move that way since they were free. Proton has the opposite incentive considering they're both paid and their only big draw is privacy. The streaming services learned this lesson as well: people don't like both paying for a service *and* being served ads. I don't particularly like that they're going AI as it dilutes focus/funds from their core, but if it stays separate I'm not too upset. Slippery slopes often don't pan out. $.02.

@XNHQ@mastodon.social what I mean is, is there AI being used in proton mail and such? My understanding was this isn't the case but I've not followed it that closely. AI reading emails is problematic.

@XNHQ@mastodon.social @protonprivacy@mastodon.social are you talking about Lumo, or other use of AI within their other services?
