Any AI is still tracking even if it is "familiar." What do you mean by versatile? Do you use different emails for different purposes or tasks or things or is it something else?

@hubertus@mastodon.social Yes, I agree that proton is still way better than google but what proton is doing is concerning. And it just feels that they market being private rather than truly living to that principle. Similar to how google markets simplicity. Nobody likes ads in their email. For me personally, I decided to slowly move to another alternative because I do not really want to find out.

@hubertus@mastodon.social No! That isn't happening right now but do the rate at which proton is adding AI features, that might be worrying in the future. Especially since many privacy sources tend to not add AI. They do try to add important features and improve the product but not AI. Remember how Google had a motto of "Do not be evil" but now they rejected that motto or years ago. It is the same concern of what Proton is doing.

@nemo@mas.to Ai requires decrypted information and data to function. The question was why does proton who claims to be private use AI which is the antithesis of privacy. It seems more that you are defending the AI use. Plus those blogs are from proton themselves so they of course put themselves in a good light. Most people who wanted privacy do not come for the AI. We should not even have to see the problem. Deactivation ≠ low priority problem. Why does a private provider need AI in the first place?

@nemo@mas.to It does not change the fact that they are not as private as they claim to be. That is appealing to virtue. Charity and privacy are different things. We are talking about privacy right now and that just seems like a distraction. Even if proton is doing good things, it does not change the fact that they claim to be private but add AI features which are the antithesis of privacy.

I already use Tuta and Tuta is fine. Proton acts more like "Google Lite" than Tuta. So you use different emails for different purposes or tasks?

@nemo@mas.to Local AI still processes your data including usage patterns, context, device patterns, etc. If proton claims to be private then why add AI in the first place. Most people who look for private alternatives avoid services with AI. Proton right now seems to be acting like it cares more about profits. They are marketing privacy to generate profits. They seem to be a big tech lite or google lite.

Does anyone know any presentation software that does not use AI?

I want to at least avoid generative AI. I hate Gen AI. That is for me personally. If you are pro AI, I do not want to debate you. I am just looking for a tool personally for me. If you have ideas then let me know. Make sure it is free and reliable. I am also a college student so that could give some context. I am not sure!

I have been using less social media! How is everyone else doing?

As of May 15, 2026:
155 days without YouTube Shorts
116 days without Discord
138 days without Reddit

I also did not use TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat orother social media.

The only social media I have used since then was Mastodon and Substacks but even then, it is just once in a while.

And for YouTube, I only use it for like school lectures and don't look at comments or anything.
