So after switching my #nixos servers to use account-utils [1], i switched my desktop today. And nothing exploded, login just works, the switch is seamless. As it should be! I didn't trust it for my daily driver for a while, but after I fixed up some internals of how we do plasma-login-manager with pam, this just works now! And same should be the case for any other display manager supported on nixos.
