and regarding this not coming out of left field in the larger tech sphere: i remember someone recently writing that tech, unlike nearly every other field, is really low on having a core set of stable points of view that are informed by what the field is about. i.e. tech, as a field, is prone to run after the next best hype. and that sure as hell rang very very true.
now add to that the base problems (emotional maturity, sexism, general adjustedness) of so many men in tech(tm), and that LLMs are good at presenting a convincing surface appearance? yeah, nothing about this should come as much of a surprise.
but it’s infuriating that it’s so obvious and still, so many blokes don’t realise the degree of bullshit they’re engaging in.
