I’ve just read @tao@mathstodon.xyz's latest paper on AI and it got me thinking of another analogy. Ever since synthetic diamonds became available that are indistinguishable from natural ones, the latter are often sold alongside the story of their discovery and formation. I think this works because people value genuine human impressions above all else. That is also what we can offer with human ideas as opposed to those generated by AI: the guarantee that a real person has already taken an interest in them.
