(Clearly from an iOS user of the app too, because the Mac version has no in-app purchases at all: all the features are now free, as my long term plan is to open-source the thing. )

A slice of the South for ya’ll
- Masses of cognitive and computational neuroscientists are giddy about what’s happening - I’m privileged to have been around them casually and get to sneak into their conferences. Their research, that’s suddenly attracting a lot more funding than it used to, will not slow down in the near future.
- The people love AI too, as ‘ChatGPT’ lives on the same plane as ‘Google’ in the public consciousness already.
- Of course we all know how LinkedIn feels about AI. For the business folk it is the invisible hand’s most exciting recent wild card, and they are ready to play.
- Finally, nobody seriously expects regulatory bodies to step in. I suspect it would take a Chernobyl-level disaster with a data centre for anything to restrict the hardware side of AI proliferation in any meaningful way.
Now is not the time for techno-conservative posturing. As software engineers, we must be clear eyed about the power of modern LLMs and recognising that this AI takeover of our industry is real and inescapable.
> People don’t judge A.I. code the same way they judge slop articles or glazed videos. They’re not looking for the human connection of art. They’re looking to achieve a goal. Code just has to work.
Wrote a lil blog post about a SwiftUI trick that helps you add Liquid Glass support to your app the sane way.
It’s a simple idea that builds on ‘conditional modifiers’ as explored by @swiftlee@mastodon.social a while back, but with a twist.

Isn’t it weird that Xcode, App Store Connect for iOS, and possibly other developer services somehow have a way of logging you into your Apple ID with only the password, completely bypassing MFA, and we are all cool with that?
"Liberalism is not the human default. It is a style of doing politics that can be sustained only in a society that is peaceful, affluent and high-trust all at once — a rare combination in our species’ history. Under such conditions, we might well see a widespread tolerance of free speech, a rejection of political violence and a popular faith in democratic processes. But when a society becomes more fractured and more threatened, those ideals may be quickly abandoned, and the aging elites who oversaw the process of decline will not be looked on kindly. Even — or especially — if their mistakes were borne of complacency."
