While thinking of media examples this question actually made me question what exactly does "subtle" mean in the context of racism. Like, "subtle" for who? Can you use the concept of "subtle," covert, microaggressive racism without constructing it in contrast to "unsubtle," overt, plain old aggressive racism? What is the function of arguing that "subtle" racism must be taken seriously "too," if not to ultimately appeal to those who are inclined to not take it seriously, whether that's someone who doesn't want to believe their racism "counts" or a racialized person minimizing their own (and/or other racialized people's) experiences of oppression as a reactionary form of survival?
Anyways, the specific media examples I was going to bring up were Get Out (the horror is not just the body stealing, the horror is the entire social system of white supremacy and anti-Blackness that enables body stealing to happen, just as you cannot decontextualize Sid's discomfort in the first half from the context of him interacting with white people who are trying to steal his body, you cannot decontextualize so-called "micro"aggressions from the aggression built into the structure of a racist society) and Sorry to Bother You (the rapping scene, which satirizes the alleged "micro"aggressive nature of the scene).
On a separate note, looked through the comments, have read Terrorist Assemblages, homonationalism has nothing to do with what you're talking about, although it is absolutely still a book I would recommend
