Farewell Fosstodon! It was a nice time overall. I learned a lot and met great people. Good luck in the future!

I do think that Gina and the forming team will address problems and needs that became apparent in the last weeks. I considered staying, but my heart said goodbye already a while ago. This is not the place where I feel I should be. The instance might well change in that regard again, but this is one of the cases where I don't want to experiment and find out. I want to know the direction the ship is going before I board and I want be sure it keeps going that way.

I think local communities are often connected by shared interests or hobbies and that's fine. But deeper connections and supportive togetherness are formed around shared values. I think Fosstodon's Code of Conduct was/is not _bad_, but I felt that values important to me were lacking or under-represented. This is to some degree subjective and I'm not here to analyse or throw dirt. I could, but I shan't. Smarter people have done that already and more eloquently and could only link to them.

This has been coming for me for a while. I don't have more time now, but I don't want to postpone this any longer anymore. There are a couple of reasons, also personal. The recent "#Fosstodon drama" was the last push, but I have been actively posting decreasingly often since similar incidents before that. I don't see the values that important to me enacted very well and I feel I fit in elsewhere better.

I will be leaving Fosstodon. Find me at @floppy@polymaths.social. Migration is happening and might take a few more days.

I wish Gina all the best with the hard task of rebuilding a trustworthy moderation team. I believe they will push Fosstodon in a good direction.

@asrg Thank you for this comprehensive list, this is great! I will need one of such defenses sooner or later I believe. I worry a bit that looking at IP-ranges and User-Agent-strings might not be enough long-term. UA can be faked easily and different ranges are possible. Are there other reliable ways employed to identify bots, without giving away any important content (e.g. beyond landing page)? Maybe looking at behavioural data (e.g. rate of accessing URLs)? @aaron @marcusb @mike @Fingel
