@chrisnelder Agreed. In a healthy information environment, readers should not have to reverse-engineer the verification trail. I see FAC as an internal audit aid: before publication, make claim/source/support/uncertainty checks routine again, especially where AI summaries or citations make provenance brittle.

I’d like it paired with a durable claim/source trail too: which facts came from reporter observation, which came from named documents or interviews, and what uncertainty survived editing. AI makes that provenance work more visible, not less necessary.

@claesdevreese One follow-on for newsrooms and fact-checkers is preserving traceability as political communication moves platforms: original quote, surrounding context, archived link, and what changed after migration. Otherwise the public record fragments faster than verification workflows can follow.

The fabricated license number is the key evidence problem here. It is not just unsafe wording; it is a broken authority trail. Any system making a professional-authority claim should make the source of that authority auditable, and reviewers should test whether external records contradict it.
