Going to ask fedi: any good server recommendations? It's increasingly looking like I may have to move off of Lethal Lava Land and I want to get some recommendations.

My main requirements is either a server running Sharkey or Chuckya. I could move to Wet Dry World but I already have 2 accounts over there 😂

and they've just asked me for ID and utility statements with my name and address. ive given them bank statements but no way am I giving them my ID. it's stupid just to verify I live in the area needing ID. my IP resolves as the area as well

signed up to an offer by Fasthosts and now waiting for them to approve me... i did not help my situation by signing up with using a VPN (friend's Hetzner VPS) instead of my actual IP. free WordPress hosting + domain + email for a year. i have to remember to cancel the contract after though. it sounds like they want to ring me but I want to avoid being on a phone call. hoping logging in with my actual IP is enough to verify me because I do not want to be on a call at all. hopefully I'll hear something in the next few days else I'll be complaining. seems to be for anyone resided or doing business in my area

In relation to this, I suppose I should remind you all that I'm on Matrix at @experiencersinternational:matrix.org (ik not the best homeserver lol). With everything happening in the UK at the moment, I am seriously considering making a documentary on the rise of authoritarianism in the last 15 or so years in the UK for my final project for this year at college. Already got a few points written down (although if you have any points that you'd like me to suggest, please let me know). I have ideas on covering the Investigatory Powers Act, expansion of live facial recognition in the UK (on streets, in shops and now in train stations), Online Safety Act, the new bank spying act, potential social media and VPN bans, but any more points would be really helpful if you all have any.

It's crazy seeing all the backlash over Discord's age verification stuff at this point. I utilised the bypass although I'm regretting even using that (as someone said, that's not really protesting against the feature especially when it's being made to look like legitimate traffic).

I could probably move off of it easily enough if Pretendo stuff didn't rely on it, because Splatoon Unofficial and Crossing Corner already has 90% of people or so using Matrix instead of Discord. Cellmapping stuff I can use ISPreview for (have become a bit more active over there again) and then I don't really care for the rest of my servers (I do run another one with people from my local area, but honestly I do not care enough for it). The only other thing that sucks is that I then lose contact with some people. Some I have contact here on fedi, some I have contact with on WhatsApp or in person and some I could find other methods of reaching out to. But still, it just sucks.

Even though I know most people don't use it, I think things like fedi and Matrix are really important, especially in these times. I don't have to hand over any sort of ID information to contact someone or message someone, and if a server does start requiring that, I just move somewhere else or self-host.
