@Vordus@chitter.xyz I guess I just learned what A11Y means, though I find it a bit stupid that the acronym exists. Just for funsies, I put the acronym to a text to speech thingy and yeah, that didn't help. It pronounced it " A - Eleven - Y" I get accessibility is a big word, but just putting a '11' in the middle of it is not a sane way to shorten it.

@StartpageSearch It'd be great if we knew more about the app. For example, is it open source? Also, is it only available through Google Play? The faq hints that the browser is based on Firefox and I do appreciate that but there's very little else known about it, like why wouldn't I just use Firefox with startpage as the homepage. I appreciate startpage's mission and enjoy the search engine. It's just that this seems like such a sudden thing when are many private browsers available.

@protonprivacy@mastodon.social I honestly think AI models should only be run locally. Many smaller models like the 7b variants can be run on cpu with 8gb of ram. These models may hallucinate information more often, but they are more than good enough for a lot of "productivity" tasks like writing emails, summarizing pages, etc With ollama and the page assist browser extension, I would argue many devices used today can run decent LLMs locally (especially given CPUs tend to be overspecced for how they are used).

@gamey@fosstodon.org Yeah Google has definitely been getting worse for private front ends of their services. Though I know aurora in particular is trying to fix issues.

@gamey@fosstodon.org Wouldn't recommend it unless you are creating an account specifically for aurora and choose to not associate your phone number with it. Google has blocked some accounts for using aurora, one of my accounts also got suspended for that. Luckily it was account I made only for aurora so lost nothing.

@gamey@fosstodon.org Uh yeah the search is unreliable. I just go to a private tab on firefox (presumably this works on chromium based stuff), go to google play website. Look up what I want, then use the "open in app" button to get it to show up in aurora. Either that or logout, and anonymous login again. It may work this time.
