so what I need everyone to know is that Anthropic unilaterally changed its terms effective yesterday for anyone using one of its new Mythos-class models (which they also added to the platform unilaterally, and they’re very hard to turn off). even if you contracted with them for zero retention, zero model training, they’re overriding that and will retain any queries and their output using Mythos models to be reviewed and assessed by their tools and staff for safety for 30 days. they don’t say this explicitly but I assume they will also use them to train their model, at least in artifact form. @christa@friend.camp I think that would be ideal: we forgot it was Mother’s Day (ours is in March) so it was definitely more crowded than we would have liked. I recommend Wolfe Ranch: we’ve visited a bunch of different orchards over the years and theirs is our favorite for being low key and uncrowded.

we also stopped by Very Mulberry, and it was a zoo: giant parking lot with “VIP Parking” (hwat), a purple colored 3-car “tram” taking you to the orchard and “reservation only” picking after 2 pm. hundreds of people in the orchard. we grabbed two prepicked containers and went on our way.

cherry picking in Brentwood, the self-proclaimed “U-pick Capital of the World!”: early ripening varieties are ready, we got Coral Champagnes and Tulares from Wolfe Ranch. Their Bings are starting to blush and ripen, will be ready in a week or two.

my funemployed brain is delightfully empty of work stress and my body is tired.

I was heading back to my apartment in New York late last night, in a nearly empty subway car. A man dressed in workwear got on, carrying a set of tools including a large, heavy metal spike, flattened at one end. I nervously looked at this thing that could easily be a lethal weapon.

He read my expression immediately: “I’m an iron worker, it’s a pry bar, we use it to make things fit when they don’t want to fit.”

An iron worker. Carrying a full set of his tools on public transit. This man builds skyscrapers and takes the R train to work. Tell me why you need a lifted F-250 for your quarterly trip to Home Depot?
